What Would a Chrysler Town & Country Wagon Look Like Today?

If the minivan had never been born (or at least never gained the popularity it did) in 1984 from Chrysler (or later from anyone else), would there have been a Town & Country wagon beyond the K-body wagon of the 1980s? Or at least, what if the minivan never led to the death of the US station wagon?

Assuming the Town & Country name continued to survive on a station wagon (not the minivan that in our reality bore the name), what would it have evolved into?

In 1978, the Town & Country was downsized and was built upon the new M body, as part of the LeBaron lineup, through 1981. From 1982 through the mid- or late 1980s, it was on the K body. In our reality, that was the last of it, and the name transferred to the Chrysler minivan in the late 1980s.

Imagine...beyond the K-body T&C of the early- to mid-1980s...the evolution of this luxurious wagon. Would it have continued as a K-body wagon into 1995, when the K-body was discontinued?

Once the K-body was discontinued in 1995, would the T&C have transferred to yet another platform? If so, which one?

Jump ahead to the time when the Dodge division came out with its small wagon, the Magnum (2005-2008 model years). If the T&C wagon lived long enough, would it have been the Chrysler division's sister ship?

[NB: This sort of happened, over in Europe: The European Chrysler division produced the 300C Touring for the EU/UK market. Sadly it was never in the US market.]

Imagine what a Magnum-based Chrysler T&C might have looked like: A Chrysler version of the Magnum, or a US-market 300C Touring, with the available option of faux woodgrain trim! ;)

Let's speculate--what do you think of an alternate-reality Chrysler Town & Country wagon?

Yea, The town and country could have evolved into a sport wagon that was called the magnum! That too died beacuse they couldn't sell enough. Almost bought one but they went out of production before I had the ca$h.

Magnum body with a 300 front clip. Seen several, it's a bolt-on swap.

I think that it would have per say evolved into either a durango type vehicle, or it would have stayed a station wagon, but its hard to say.

Honestly, and no offense meant to those who like them, but the Magnum is not really wagon to me. That sloping roof with the cut out in it makes it a hatch back or something. It is also very difficult to see out of. One test drive was enough to put me out of it permanently. Then there is the weight of the thing. Chrysler might have come out with a good wagon, but they had that platform foisted on them by their owners at Daimler-Benz. When the 300 was introduced, it was, and still is, on the previous generation of Mercedes E-Class platform. That is now a very old platform by engineering standards.

Loved my Magnum! One of the best cars I've ever had. Would not have sold it, but had to have a truck. I agree with Patrick. Throw the 300 front end on the Magnum to see what could have been the Town & Country. They're actually sold this way, over in Europe.

And a picture of my old Magnum, for the heck of it.

If they had stayed with a wagon design in the lh body it surly would have been an lhs wagon .

The Magnum is definitely a wagon, not a hatchback.

And that would have been a beautiful thing!
I wish they had built an LH platform wagon!

Yes, that would have been nice! I drove a 2000 Concorde as a company vehicle for a short while. Short on power with the 2.7 V6 mine had, but it sure rode nice.......big and quiet. Would have made a great wagon.

Krash: I think you've mentioned that to me in the past!
My modern Mopar passion is the LH cars. One of mine is 2.7 powered, but the rest are 3.2 or 3.5 powered. My girlfriend drives the 2.7 powered car and I drive the rest with the bigger motors.

I have several times sat down and attempted to draw an LHS or Intrepid wagon for kicks. Alas, I'm not particularly good at drawing, so I've never achieved results I've been happy with.

I would imagine a charger front clip would be a bolt on too since they sit on the same body platform.

    They call it the Chargum.

It bolts on, but the body lines don't match up. You have to get a body shape to custom make some fenders. Or, there was a guy that made a mold, and produced some fenders in limited quantities. More pictures.... :)
