If that's as badly rusted as it got in 50 years, I say leave it alone for another 50.

What a great wagon! Nice to see her being used, too. Now it is my turn to sound off on the patina issue. If it is just that the paint has come off, through sun damage or excessive polishing, and there is primer still intact, then I would seal it, and fast. Primer is not impermeable to water, and you really don't want rust taking hold. If, however, you are down to bare metal, and there is rust starting, get that seen to quickly, somehow. If you are not wanting it to be pristine, neutralize the rust, and use spray bomb primer and paint to blend it in. Otherwise the rust takes hold, and you will find that you are up against a major problem down the road. It is one thing when a car stays in a dry place all the time. It sounds, though, like you are planning to use this old girl, and travel with her. That means you are likely to hit the coastal areas and other 'wet' spots. Dry area patina will become cancer pretty quickly under those conditions. Serious rust can kill a car in short order.

    Hi again
Cheers all for the help and comments .
Asvfarvas the patina thing goes I was going to use a product to seal it a type of wax that is used on boats here in the uk . Called colinite adds a slight sheen not shiny surface but also protect the treated area .
Will post more pics as I come across them and thanks again in the welcome ..
