http://www.austinpost.org/sxsw-2013/so-you-think-you-want-move-austin - This was a good read, and my brother, who moved here about 6-years ago after living in London, Washington DC, and Los Angeles, has said almost all of this to me. Regardless a good read, especially for you folks in the frozen north who think about moving south. The "It's as hot as balls" statement is very true! But...I personally like averaging 300-days of sunshine a year. -Mike
I moved to Tucson from the Chicago suburbs........and couldn't be happier. No snow to shovel, no ice to drive on.......seemed all I ever did back there on a day off was shovel, mow,,,,,,or it was raining. At 5am today, I walked the dog. It was 68 degrees, and seemed a little chilly. We adapt. Can't wait to be retired and just get up and go play in my shop.
I had to google 'SXSW', and I'm still not sure what it is........ I'd love to visit your area sometime, Mike!
I was born in San Diego and raised in Tucson. Life brought me to KC and while it's great, my fantasy is to throw my snow shovel under the wheels of the moving fan as I'm headed south to warmer climates and watch it get crushed. Texas, Arizona and Florida are on my radar - somewhere I can get to a beach in a few hours. And yes, that's possible from AZ!
Ive been to Austin and I loved it. Friendly people, good food, nice highways and very hot weather. The hot weather is something that I would need to get used to
Spent a few days in Austin (6th street/Covert park) last week...amazing city (and area: Loui Mueller BBQ / Luchenback.) Last Thursday we had rain while on 6th street...lots of rain. (rain followed us on 6,600 mls road trip the 4 weeks prior ...even had hail/flooding and 52*F in NM)
