    hot mama !!!

Before, during and after the much too short a time I had my 68 Colony Park "Thunder", the neighbor of a friend had one of these. I believe that one was dark brown. The guy washed it every Saturday, even though it wasn't driven that much... This one looks incredible ! :yup: Definitely one for The Collection.

This car was a no sale several times on ebay. I don't recall exactly, but I think it may have been priced a bit unrealistically. I'm no expert, but it's my impression the people with that kind of money to spend are not huge fans of Mercury wagons.

One of the things that impresses me about this car is that its options make it significantly more luxurious than a Country Squire. Note the carpeting on the lower portion of the door trim panels and the twin comfort lounge seats -- two options not available on the Country Squire.

Unlike the sedans and hardtops which rode a longer wheelbase than the Fords, the wagons used the same wheelbase and basic body shell. Later models, unfortunately, failed to maintain a significant distinction between the makes, which -- to my mind -- was one of the factors in Mercury's demise.

Strangely, most Mercurys -- even from this era, an despite their comparative rarity -- are considered less valuable than the comparable Ford.

    Go figure.

I used to live near Auburn, IN, so I am familiar with the annual auction and collector car show! It used to be called the Auburn Cord Duesenberg (ACD) Festival and Auction. I used to attend and walk around the cars. One of my older brothers, a classic car aficionado, volunteered at the auction by driving the cars up on the auction block and back off.

I used to see a lot of station wagons there too, along with hearses, ambulances, motorhome conversions (even a VW Beetle motorhome), etc.

Are there still a lot of wagons there to this day? I haven't lived in Indiana since 2004 (have since lived in London England, San Francisco, and now Calgary).

    people, sometimes

I used to work in a neighborhood where someone owned a Mercury Mariner Hybrid. When Ford announced that they would no longer be making Mercury vehicles, the person traded their Mariner in on an Escape Hybrid. Why? Because they weren't going to be making them anymore. There's just no accounting for people and their thought patterns.
