Ye old Chrysler PT Cruiser is going the way of the dodo this summer, and according to Chrysler LLC President Tom LaSorda, the automaker is actively pursuing a sale of the equipment used to build the PT in Toluca, Mexico.

Speaking with Bloomberg, LaSorda was kind enough to both ask and answer his own questions, saying, "Would we sell those assets? Yes. Do we have any offers to sell those assets? No. Would we be pursuing a buyer? Yes." That makes for an easy interview...

Sales of the PT dropped by 49% last year, with only 50,910 vehicles leaving dealer lots. That's down from the PT's peak when Chrysler was able to offload 144,717 models in 2001. The PT's demise doesn't come as a surprise, particularly considering that Chrysler's owner, Cerberus Capital Management, has slashed six other models from the automaker's lineup since it took control in August 2007. For those of you keeping count, the PT's timely death means that the Chrysler badge is only affixed to three models: the Town & Country minivan, Sebring and 300C.

I am really sorry to see it go. I know it is a matter of taste and I don't know if it is the same in the States as in Europe, but Chrysler has always been a manufacturer that was bolt enough to come up with models that are different, certainly in the retro designs.
Overhere, people either like or hate the PT, but I have always found it a nice appearance on the dutch roads. Solong!:tiphat:

Not my taste, but I was happy to see a retro-styled vehicle, that was even available with woodgrain on it roaming the streets and sitting in the mopar dealerships.

I'm beginning to think, that the only reason MBZ bought Chrysler was;to get that Hemi-technology:mad:for their AMG's...HACHTUNG!!!(think spitting a loogie)

I wonder how long the Chevy HHR will last now that the vehicle that inspired it is ceasing production. I personally like that vehicle better than the PT Cruiser, largely because it is an actual wagon with retro styling (based on the Chevy Cobalt body) and not a hatchback.

    HHR styling

Or how long it will keep it's smooth,well-rounded looks.I hated what MBZ did to the Durango. It ended up too minvan looking, for me.Too plasticky. It also bugs me that, instead of improving V8 technology just that much more,Ford is getting rid of the CrownVic/GrandMarq line of vehicles. If the Hybrid drivetrain can make Escape/Mariners move,it can make CrownVics move. And I do believe they'd be able to sell a lot of 30 mpg CrownVics.

Losing the Crown Vic is a sad state of affairs. They're great cars. I loved mine.
