Greetings! Had quite a few nice MoPar muscle cars in the early 80's when they could be found for under 2K, including: 1970 Dodge Coronet 440 w/318 2bbl 1970 Dodge T/A Challenger 340 SixPak '68 and a '69 Charger, both w/440 4bbl 1969 1/2(A12 code) Dodge Coronet Superbee 440 SixPak Hurst 4speed Sadly, did not have the ability to hang on to them. Looking to get into a classic muscle car again, but with prices what they are nowadays, not gonna happen with my limited budget. Not to cast any disparages towards wagons or their owners, I think this may be a way to ease back in and scratch the current itch... May be able to slowly trade up and get back into a 2 door classic, but trying to find a decent starting point has been a challenge. For my 4-5K budget, considering two ends of my available spectrum, a mid level Coronet: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130931281495&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123#v4-40 and a rusty Satellite: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/cto/3914715473.html Ideally would love to find a 1970 Coronet wagon, but those seem few and far between. Like the '65 above, but hate the color. Not so hot on the body style, but dig that it seems fairly honest and rust free. Interior is in great shape as well. Talked the seller down to 3200, after the winning bidder flaked out at 3500. Think it would look great dark green or black, just not sure if I would even have enough dough for a cheap paint job by the time I get it home (1000 mile round trip), trailered w/Jeep. Totally dig the Satellite body style and color, and could probably talk the seller down to 1500, but worried how much rust it has. Have no idea of ballpark body work number, just based on the visible stuff, let alone the unseen. Will be selling by Supersport Kawasaki to help fund this, so whatever I wind up with needs to be something at least marginally cool, so I don't wind up missing the ZX too bad.... Any input or thoughts would be appreciated.... Best, Snowtrooper1966 and family
Hey snowtropper to SWF. That's a heck of a choice you got there. I know which one I'd go for but your the one buying it. I guess it comes down to how much work do you want to do and which one is calling to you. They both would make awesome drivers, but what do you have in mind?
I'm leaning towards the Coronet, as I don't currently have a garage to do any major work in. Like the look and style of the Satellite better tho... Guess I need to figure out if I can get the Satellite up to a similar state with the dough I would save on buying that one. It's also only an hour away from me...
Welcome to the nuthouse! What a choice you have! Either will end up being a cool car. Part of it depends on how you plan to use it. To my eye, the yellow one is the cooler car, and is a real beauty. The rustier 68 is, though, easier to up grade for modern traffic if you are going to use it more often. Disc brakes and a good split master cylinder are a must for a daily driver, and the 68 is very easy to upgrade. It may be that the other may be just as easy, as they may take the same parts for the conversion. Either way, you end up with a very great car. Have fun and be sure to keep us up to date, first with what you buy, and then with a build thread so we can cheer you on!
Welcome aboard Snowtrooper! Love the Satty, but agree with you on the rust factor. Hope you find a wagon of your own, but be careful they can be addictive.
Thanks, all! Will be using the wagon to drive the family around quite a bit, so essentially a daily driver. Also, currently don't have a garage for major work, so need to try to figure ballpark cost of body work the Sattelite would need as it would have to be done at a shop....
Welcome aboard! Be wary of rust....good luck with your wagon search. The hunt is half the fun! Mopar wagons seem to be more rare than Ford, Chevy or BOP (Buick, Olds, Pontiacs).
Welcome to the SWF, Snowtrooper...... Wow, you had a great stable there at one time. If you still had all of them, you could retire a wealthy man. As to your choices, I kinda like the yellow Coronet. (On the Satellite, once the old Di-Noc fades away, it's a bit hard to show the love, since it's such a pain to take it off and replace/repaint - just my opinion.) If you're not 'in love' with either one, maybe wait a bit. You are in an area where plenty of good wagons are around. Just keep your eyes open. On CL, you might want to check the LA, OC and Inland Empire sections as well. If you find something that's long-distance, throw up a 'help-needed' thread. Maybe somebody on here is nearby and can check it out for you. That's exactly what happened to get me my Safari, which was in Wisconsin. Marshall
Anyone closes to this: http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=255567#post255567 Wouldn't mind a personal "once over" by someone with wagon experience...
