    RARE 1949 PLYMOUTH 2DR WAGON! - $1495 (Tigard, OR)

I purchased this extremely rare and very cool 1949 Plymouth Suburban 2dr wagon recently, only to find I bit off more than I can chew . . . It would make a great hot rod surf wagon, or it would be an excellent Plymouth wagon parts car. She is referred to as a P-17, short wheel base Plymouth, 111" wheel base.

The car is complete, less the motor and trans. All the hard to find station wagon parts are on the car. Although the pics are not too kind to the tailgate section, she has an excellent lower tailgate and the split window, upper half of the tailgate is also in super shape. The tailgate mechanism for raising and lowering the tailgate is also in excellent condition. No cancer in the tailgate, and I don't see any in the doors. She has the extremely hard to find, correct wagon only tail light housings and lenses. The grill is perfect except for two tiny dings. All the glass is in the car, the dash and guages are complete and in the car. The rear fenders are not perfect, but could be massaged back to straight. I do have line on a very straight passenger side rear fender. The hood is very straight and on the car, as well.

The infamous ribbed bumpers are there, including the extremely hard to find rear, ribbed station wagon only bumper. The original seats are in the car, and the door panels and headliner are there for patterns, as well. The downside is the floors. Someone covered over the original floor board with sheet metal, and as they were rusted out from the driver's foot area and the passenger side foot area, then under the front seat. The back seat foot area is also ragged, but from the back seat back, it appears to be solid. There is a company making the replacement floor panels for this car, as well as the station wagon only rockers.

It will take someone with some welding skills, and metal fab experience to do the floors, front and rear feet and seat areas correctly. The car is a steering, rolling car. Most of it is too nice to part out, but if you do need a nice donor, this car would be great for that purpose, too. I am simply selling the car for what I just paid for it, plus some new parts I found for her. Call me if you love old 2 dr wagons.

Problem is, it would cost nearly the purchase price to get it to Oklahoma! Damn, that is a nice car! I have both a 318 and a 440 that would be right at home in that.

Patrick: Put a car trailer behind the Colony Park and away you go! She would love the trip, and I bet you would find her running better afterwards, too! Sounds like a great excuse for a road trip!

    Another one I want. I need Jay Leno's garage----and money!:yup:
I also have a low mileage 440/torqueflite eagerly waiting. Memories of my 49 Dodge haunt me.

Not with a tow rating of just 2,500#, I'm not.

Tow rating? What's that? Just as a for instance, not to get into all the RV trailers and cars I've drug around. --- I had a 1987 Chevy 1/2 ton van with 305 or 307? With my 18' heavy duty flat bed loaded with a car almost each trip and filled inside and out with junk I made seven trips over 1100 miles to Florida.I added a good aux tranny cooler and an electric fan and drove that van over 100,000 more miles.
Tow ratings are important but under rated. Besides a 49 Plymouth without engine can't be very heavy.
The tranny cooler was the same refrigerator condensor I used on trucks for years.

I'd dolly it versus trailer it, if I were to use the Merc. It's a whole lot easier to pull #2,500 car/dolly versus #4,300 car/trailer.
