2 late 80's Safari's in NC for $1500

That Safari is an 1984 or 1985 model (if the tailgate is original), due to the lack of the 3rd center brake light.

 

The one in the pictures is the second car, and he clearly states it is an 83 Parisienne Safari. These would be the perfect pair for Theshnizzle! Just what she is looking for, too. The price seems good for 2 essentially rust free wagons as well.

 

Who offers TWO vehicles, but only posts up pics of the one that doesn't run? Apparently, this guy. :banghead3:

 

I live nearby, the one that runs is kinda rough....maybe take the two and make one good one...

 

Well! Thanks for thinking of me!! And,yeah,where is the pic,ANY pic, of the " good" car? I stumbled across a 89 safari on my travels this weekend,ohh boy,was she rough.

Balanced up on tree stumps as jacks,no brake lines left at all,the bottom was hanging down at the back underneath and it needed about 5 or 6 million coats of fresh paint, poor thing.

I wish I could save them all from being destroyed......

 

Snizz, one thing to keep in mind about Ontario. You want 87 or older, not 88 or newer. 87 is the magic year. Anything 87 or older is exempt from Drive Clean. Anything 88 and newer is not until and if it is run with 'Historic Vehicle' plates, and that limits how you can use the car. The one in the pictures looks pretty good to me. Certainly solid enough to be fixed fairly easily. After all, brake lines and fuel lines are no big deal should it need them. Most mechanical parts are a snap as well. If you need an engine a good 350 Chevy is a snap to pick up and pop in, too. Keep in mind, rough there is a different thing than rough here, too. Dents and things are fixable. The rust we get here will destroy a car completely.

Hey mike, my issue is I need to find a car that doesn't need TOO much work,there is a limit to what my bf is willing to fix.......on a car....a motorcycle is a different thing!

Also, I have no way to get a car from the States ,no towing capabilities or a trailer,nor do I have a ton of dough to throw at a project, only to find it needs MORE dough.

IF a car was guaranteed to be able to drive home from the states,that's different. I took a leap of faith with my roadie ,it was a 3 hour drive home without issues( well, except for the whole gas cap is locked and did I get a key thing)

I certainly don't mind learning how to do work ,basic anyway, I think but I don't want to get in over my head the first go around.

 

Fair enough. I was thinking of the rust issue, though. The ones here have a nasty habit of losing floor boards, amongst other important bits! Mechanically, these cars are bog simple, and dirt cheap. The body work can break the bank in a hurry. If you do look at one here, the first thing to check is the roof above the A pillars. G.M. did not get enough paint in there on many of them, and they rot from the inside out. The roof paint is also prone to cracking and peeling, and this is an expensive fix on a car that looks decent.
