thats funny i went to the salvadge yard a couple weeks ago and lo and behold a buick century wagon,, so i go runnin to it and go right to the back and DOH :banghead3: it is gone of all the things right off the bat,, but it had some other odd and ends on it and i need to go back and pick it apart i had a repro one one the malibu and it did,nt even make it a year so i put the old one back on,,,the outer cover spins but works better than the new repop one,,,,the one on the cutlass was the ONLY one on my wagons i,ve had that was perfect till a buddy accidently broke so i was able to reair it but would like to find another one,,,,,but i may just shave it off since it has the optional rear window release in the glove box

no,,it has a button in the glove box for the rear window release,,so you press that one first ,release the window then you hit the second button and it (the second solenoid) releases the tailgate itself and the way these tailgates just pop open i didn,t see where it would be an issue of popping open and dropping down,,, and i was going to utilize a stock trunk release button and put it into the glove like the other so it appeared stock,, so i would need another solenoid,,relay ,,and button that is unless i can find another good rear tailgate lock

yea if you look around on the g-body wagons it was an uncommon option and the button is in the glove box and the typical used for years g.m. trunk release button,,,,the only thing is they used a cable and a wheel for the actuator to help amplify the leverage ratio so it goes from the actuator around the pulley and to the window release,,,not a big deal really,, i took that into consideration with the possibility of electrical release of the tail gate via solenoid and the amount of pull needed ,,,,,but the only thing i,ve noticed over the years is a majority of the g-body wagons dont have a shaved lock on the tailgate,,and i,ve seen some fairley radical lots of work fancy paint and body work cars with it still on and didn,t know why

Mine also has the rear glass release,I might jump on that idea with you for the rear gate though, Ive seen the guys use motors on there truck tail gates to raise and lower them, thats a sweet idea too.
