Working on my '58 Wagon yesterday and feeling pretty good about what I was getting done. (y) Finish wiring under dash.. check, install gas pedal... check, run new wire to tail light 'cuz it's not working.. check...'er wait. Ran wire.. lights worked. Decided to wire in my third brake light... yes, third brake light on a '58 wagon.. and wala... tail lights worked, but when I stepped on the brake.. no light.. what the...?!@!!!.... :49: and when stepping on the brakes moving car back and forth.. HARD GRAB TO RIGHT! ... Dang! :banghead3:Now wheel cylinders need addressing.. go online to get wheel cylinders .. DANG!!! No front wheel cylinders offered for a '58 via Rock Auto.. sigh.. DANG.. they do provide rebuild kits.. I hate rebuild kits.. would rather just get complete unit.. DANG! :banghead3:

OK.. we'll I'll at least sit in it.. finish off my beer :pub: and listen to the stereo.. DANG! Too much distortion in the speaker.. Going to have to replace speaker.. maybe install several around the car.. for true STEREOFONIC sounds. Sigh... well.. two steps forward.. three back.. yadda yadda.

Oh cry me a river . That's ok.. this thing was abused for so long that it's really enjoying the attention :jumping: and it wants more of it... OK.. I get it... perhaps stretch that timeline out just a bit further.... :(

I like a car that exhibits faults, like brakes, at home. Where it's "easy" to fix.

... You're right, better at home than on the road. Just get a little burned out working on her that I would like to be like the guy in the movie "Christine"... just stand back and say "SHOW ME"... and have the dang thing repair itself. Still have two other beauties waiting for attention.. the '49 (which I want to get fixed up enough to sell this summer).. and the '55 Buick which needs EVERYTHING. It's the project nobody expects to be completed.. So I'm calling it "Project X". It'll just sit in the shop covered until one day when nobody is expecting it.. it pulls out of the shop and into the driveway completely finished.... but that's another story...:tiphat:

day 1 pic 1.jpg Oh how I wish it were a '55 Buick WAGON.

So you stepped on the brake pedal and no lites? Did you run that third brake lite wire directly to the brake lite switch?
Have another beer and think about it. In fact have two and the speakers will begin sounding better. Continue drinking until the sound is perfect, or you pass out, whichever comes first! Leave the keys on the workbench. :rofl2:
I've had a 1987 Ford Escort third brake lite on my 55 Chevy since late 80's I even sanded off that nasty FORD logo!:rofl2:

Brakes are overrated. With my Bumpers, when I have to slow down I just smash into Hondas' and Toyotas',

You might try Kanter. I bought replacements for the '57 (a long time ago mind you) from them, reasonable price, quick service. Eventually though I swapped the front clip.
