just went to my H.S reunion lasst night....(nothing will make you feel as worthless as being the only truck driver there) and all those who had remembered my being a car nut came up to me and asked 2 things 1. do you still have the jeep? ( i had a cherokee when i was in HS and ..no i dont have it but!,,,,its still on the road..i cant even imagine the milage) 2. what are you driving now? ...my response (the roadmaster) granted me more puzzled looks than ever....then i explained the virtues of the MIGHTY WAGON! ....and the response...."oh..that makes sense". Ha!
Hey I was a Truck driver all my adult life. It was what i am(was), a driver. I loved the work. You get to work alone, no boss looking over your shoulder. Sadly I lost my job in the winter of 05 due to my migraines. Been on disability ever since. BTW if anybody ever looks down on your job. Ask them how many times the shirt on their back has ridden in the back of a truck? They would be amazed.
i'm 52 now...i stopped goin to the reunions years ago....they'r too depressing... ...I still look good ....they'r all fat n ugly
those puzzled looks In 2001,I got my present job.A unionized goverment job that's been my best paying job yet.Not knowing that Mercury had discontinued the Colony Park in 1991,with the introduction of the Mountaineer,I called a nearby Mercury dealer and asked if they had any brochures or sales information on Colony Parks.Thinking I was going to be rich enough, soon,to get one...NOBODY had any idea what I was talking about!!!:confused:They had to get the old guy that worked in the fixit shop to give me an answer. I can understand, somewhat, that some of your former classmates had no idea what a Roadmaster is,,but NOBODY at a Mercury dealer knowing what a Colony Park is???Now that's pitifull and pathetic. What's next Cadillac salesmen who don't know what Sevilles are?..
Don't be surprised, in a few years all Caddies any of the dealerships will know about will simply have alphanumeric designations besides the Escalade SUV. The younger gen employees will look at you crosseyed if you talk about a classic coupe Deville.
i hate breaking with vehicular tradition....a 5 door is what they call a wagon now i guess! when i was a kid you have pretty much arrived if you had a coupe deville. caddy names had class, the eurobuggys had numerical and 3+letter names. seville, deville, EL dorado, mirage, allante....they just rolled off your tounge
those three and five door wagons I know what you mean about designating the tailgate or hatchback as a door.Even if it is one Ford's three way tailgates, and opens as a door in two of those ways.Even Ford calls it a tailgate, not a door...Used to know somebody with a six door VW van.The Barndoor Walk-thru Model, they called it.When he'd tell people he had a six door VW van, they'd look very skeptical,so he'd add,"It's got eight,if you count the two on the back." And people think 21 window vans are cool...
AAAHHH, the reunion. My HS had one this last June for our 10 year (yep, I'm a young-in). I did not go, simply put, I don't care to see the same people I didt get a long with 10 years earlyer, nor pay $50-60 bucks for some crappy cold dinner... However, I did see some pictures from the event. Man oh man, most looked like they have been partying since 1998, same clothing and all....It all aged them, they all look drawn out and heavy, looking 10-15 years older than the actual age they are. As for younger people forgetting what real names of cars are or simply what a station wagon is. I went with my local car club (I'm the only one out of 125 members with a wagon) to a drive in movie. Of course I back in like millions of wagon owners have done before me. I start to get out of my LTD and some "kid" ( would say, 16, pushing 18 if at all) comes up to me "sir, are you going to pop your trail gate up? If you are, you have to park in the gray section." I looked at him, I was confused at first myself. Of course I then relized he was confused and never really had been around older full size wagons. I showed him how it works, he then brought his friends over that work at the theater to show them too.... Jonny
yeah, i love that reaction...i showed a friend of mine how the buick's works and he said "cool....its like a honda ridgline".....i looked at him dumbfounded and said..."no, a ridgline's gate works like mine" ...the nerve. Watch the coffee rev, its bad for the computer!
confusion says Our 77 Dodge Aspen had a liftback,as did our 74 fastback Mustang II.Have yet to see a truly full-sized wagon with one,though...When we had it,about twelve years ago,young-in co-workers told me they thought my Aspen was "HUUUUUGE!"...I remember thinking to myself "A Dodge Dart.Huge?..Apparently they haven't seen a mid-70's Cadillac."
