A sad and hard lesson to be learned here. A couple, actually. The first is to be very, very careful when parking a car on grass or leaves. Catalytic converters and mufflers get very hot, especially cats, and will set fire to grass if it is dry. The second is never, but never, fight fire by yourself, without calling in the professionals. As this unfortunate gentleman discovered, fire is insidious, and sneaky. Hotspots are a real problem. Just because a fire appears to be out, never assume it is extinguished. The other thing is when you have a building full of collectable cars, a fire sprinkler system is always a good investment. Most collectable car insurance policies have a discount for having fire protected storage, and over the course of a few years, especially when you have several cars, the cost of the sprinkler is more than covered by the savings.
