Hi, sold my 67' Ford Ranch Wagon and bought a 1948 Chrysler Windsor Sedan Delivery from Switzerland. You never heard about a Sedan Delivery from Chrysler ? You're right - this car came into Switzerland as a new 4-dr Sedan and was rebuild to a hearse there in 1958, but has the body look-like a sedan delivery - when side windows are closed with steel which will happen in the coming week. Mike
Well, you are right. I sat here scratchin' my head..........48 Chrysler sedan delivery??? Never saw one, never heard of one............gonna be a nice ride! Bill
The original 6 inline Flathead will stay but will be hot rodded the old fashioned way - aluminium head, separated exhaust, multiple carb intake, cam, etc. Transmission will be changed to a TH700 Overdrive. 12 Volts for sure. Actually the car has taillights from a late 50's Fiat, but those does not match the car's design. I'll remove them and add a set of '41 Ford taillights, turned 90°. First chrome parts are brought to a coating company. First they will remove the old chrome to check the condition of the die casting (pores). Will post pictures during the restoration. In between: A Good & Healthy New Year to you all ! Mike
Lilcammer My first project was a 1948 Plymouth coupe, so this one of yours has my attention! I like the fact that the original engine will be modified and kept. Like yours, my '48 needed a LOT of work, but hearses are special, and I'm excited to see your progress. Here is an old photo taken in 1974 (I was 17 years old) when I had completed the car. Now I have a hearse.... Good luck! Bob
Very unique Mopar with great history. It looks like it was laid out well for the conversion. Some pretty nice work. Can't wait to see the resto start. Nice!
Cool ride! Keep us posted with progress pics. That top looks like it's already been chopped - going to be a nice ride! I like your approach to the engine too - that will be very unique.
Thanx to all for your great comments and pics (1974 Bob ). Sorry was out in the hospital for 2 weeks. Now the long side windows are closed. The rear door is very unique, too. It slips inside under the roof ! But rear window is too big, so I decided to put in a smaller one similar to the design of the Ford/Chevy Sedan Deliveries. I decided to use a rear window from an '58 Volkswagen Bus. This is where I'm working on actually - parallel to the disassembly of the engine. By the way: we'll use the crank of the later version of the flat 6, the 265 cid. Special multiple carb intake is ordered now. "Mr.Edgy" will cast a special one for Chrysler. He has done that for Dodge/Plymouth 6'es, but never for the bigger Chrysler 6. He'll cast the cylinder head in aluminium, too. And he'll weld a 2x3 seperated exhaust header for me. You could have a 350/350 combo cheaper for sure, but this would be w/o any style. The color below the belt line of the car will be painted in the color the Jaguar has. The upper part will be painted in white matt.
Looking great. I love that dash! And I'm slightly familiar with those 41 Ford tail lights. Can't believe more people haven't used those. Even on a 41 Ford many customs have them removed. It was a one year only on the cars and used into the 50's or more on Ford panel trucks. Just add LED lites inside them.
That's gonna be nice - kinda like to see a late Hemi with the new 8-speed to haul all the weight, though!
Looking at that dash, it seems that a modern touch screen would be right at home in that rectangular spot in the middle. Almost like it was made for one.
Sorry - I can't use modern technology, due to our laws says, that you can't get the car licensed as historical if you use LED, modern engines, etc. But for the fix costs and for environmental zones I need the car as historical licensed. Weight of the car is approx. 3700 lbs
