i'll post something.(reference the msg. every time i log in). got this wagon a while ago. going to turn it into a driving car, meaning i will drive it anywhere no matter how far. details: 250 six, three on the tree, orig cali rust bucket, 79k miles, last registered in 1991, heavy smoker. runs and drives. base model nomad with pretty much no options. rusted thru on all fixed windows, but its not that bad some parts of the country would call it surface rust. floors have rust holes. me- i'm 60 . list of cars i have now 1988 honda accord - daily driver, 1969 chevy c-10- work in progress, 1965 mustang- just sitten there but stright and rust free. and of course this 1969 chevelle nomad that some day soon will be my new daily. plans: want to keep it a 6 if i can, add an manual overdrive transmission, disc in front and lower it a tad. thinking of some buckets for the front and maybe a/c, cruise control if possible
Welcome. I really like that you want to keep the six, they're great engines and will get you there no matter what. You don't need a big V8 to make somebody people think you're cool if you already know you're cool.
Nomad. Nice project. First got my 55 wagon and wanted to go back to a later six. But the 350 and 4-speed were too much fun. Now it's had several V-8's and I guess it will remain that way. Years ago people had the goofy idea the six wasn't a good engine and out it came, no matter how low the mileage or what it was. Be different and have fun.
from a cousin up here in Canada. Mine is in a similar condition. I also plan to keep my 6I. How is your interior. The only issue I have with mine is a crack in the dash pad, for now I keeping that too. I guess your already enjoying the forums, hope to see the progress that you make.
OOPS! I meant to add a pic of mine, since you showed us yours. Your interior looks to be the same as mine...color, etc. Mine is all striped right now. I needed rear quarters for both sides. With help from a member here I was able to get a set of Nomad quarters shipped from Texas. I am hopefully that she'll get those put on soon, before spring.
Welcome to the forums, aka the Nut House. Great car you have there. It is wonderful to see such a base model wagon that is loved! Not many of them around, since most of the very base wagons were bought cheap, used hard, then discarded. I'm betting there aren't many of the I-6, 3 on the tree, wagons left. Bet they didn't make many to start with. If I may make a suggestion, any up grades you do to improve livability are great, but keep the old parts to be put back if you ever want to return the old girl to her original configuration. At this stage in the game, numbers matching doesn't make much difference, but in another 20 or 30 years, it just might.
