I got a guy who stopped when I was on my way out the door to work, askin me if she was for sale, I said hell yes I will sell her, he looked her over and liked what he saw. Said make me an offer, he said he would be back in the next few days once he has cash in his hands to wave in my face to make a firm offer. I would see her off for $700 cash, I am making a few bucks that way and I know I can get a more economical car locaally for that or a little less. 21 miles one way to work @ 12ish mpg in this old girl is gonna start costing me a good days wages a week.

 

Looks like a pretty decent car for $500. Those 351's are dogs. In their defense they have crappy heads and low compression so you can't expect much from one in stock form. Couple that with what are probably pretty steep gears and you get what you have.

In certain parts of the world people would kill for the front signal indicator and parking light lenses. The clear lenses on your car were a one year only thing in '79. The rest of the run of that front end from '80-'87 used amber colored lenses.

 

Keep in mind the single exhaust kills these engines. Also, they were gone through pretty thoroughly for 85, and the 85 and up 351s are a completely different kettle of fish. I still can't believe everything working right, and 12 mpg. Nora, with a 351M/FMX drivetrain was doing 24 miles to the American gallon with her original 2 bbl carb. All that was done was changing the exhaust.

Going to be interesting to see how Bertha does with the 400 cid in the giant body, especially considering the 50-70 mile, one way, commute I often have for work.

 

Well, sold the LTD today for $850.

Turned around and bought this lil thing for $200 from a guy who was hurting for money to pay fines or end up in jail.
2002 Escort ZX2 Auto tranny, AC, Tilt, Cruise with 111,000 miles. The only thing I see it needs is a set of sneakers, these will last a summer, but not good enough for snow. He said he was getting an average of 27mpg and has hit 33mpg on the highway. Must more to my liking then the 12ish mpg the LTD would have gotten. The rockers are getting soft right infront of both back tires, down low so you cant even tell from just looking at it, super easy place to patch up and blend in come spring. Im much happier with this car and I just feel more confident with it being a better all around car for us.

Yes, I kinda feel bad about only paying $200 for it. But he told me what he needed, I didnt make the offer. I can easily get $400-500 in scrap alone for it.

Nice find and deal there Scott! I just sold my van Wednesday, was sad to see it go and the guy talked me down to $900.00 but needed the money and the driveway space. I will miss it, but sometimes one project (the wagon interior) is more than enough.
