Hope I'm doing this right! I'm Randy, live in Tenn.,and I've seen 53 years come and go. Now, the fun part; I've driven an LTD wagon and a Country Squire wagon. Presently have a '77 Aspen wagon in need of front sheet metal and a '78 Volare wagon for parts. Trim and grille(broken) on the Volare won't cross over, but slant 6,tranny,and aluminum slots will. I work at George Dickel distillery,am married and all 3 kids are "grown-n-gone"! I have no computer service where I live,so trips to the library are a necessity. Cell service is even spotty at home, so I guess I live in the sticks.Local TV stations don't come in, either. I'll have to come up with an alternative to posting pictures, unless it can be done here at the library.
Welcome. Love those Aspen/Volare wagons. By the way, if the Volare front clip is all in good condition, you can swat the entire clip from the one to the other. The mounting points are the same although the sheep metal is somewhat different. If my memory serves, the hoods are actually identical, but the trim across the front is different to allow for the different grills. Badge engineering on the cheap, but it was effective at giving the front ends each a distinctive look. Also, while you have the front fenders off, try to find the inner front fenders from a 1980 Volare or Aspen. Body style doesn't matter. That was the only year that the cars came with inner fenders, and so are the only year that the front fender tops don't rust out from the inside. On the earlier ones, the dirt off the road scoured the inside of the fenders, exposing bare metal and away they would go. For a long time, fiberglass front fenders were available after market to prefect the problem from recurring. I have no idea if they are still available or not. They may well be. Love that 225 slant 6, even if it is a bit of a pain adjusting the solid lifters every year. Do that, though, and they are virtually bullet proof. Too bad they aren't as easy on gas as they might be. Believe it or not, the 318 got better gas mileage on the highway, especially if you got the 4 bbl version. Have fun around here. Hope you enjoy. Just remember, we're all a little nuts but we do love our wagons!
Howdy neighbor. I'm not much of a drinker and never heard of George Dickel whiskey, I'll have to give it a try.
Randy ...ya gotta go to the library to do this???? now thats dedication !!! cant wait to see the beast
