Ok, to celebrate my very first posting on SWF, I thought I'd a share a photo I'd routed from my pile. I found this sad old relic in a scrap metal yard in the South west of England, in arural village called Newton poppleford. I took it when I first moved there in 1997. It was a 66 Dodge Polara. It's been laid up since the 70's, when there was a fuel problem in the UK. He then sold the engine and rear axle to a drag racer, and then left it outside with the intention of doing it up in the future, but some local vandals threw something through the side window, and rain got in leaving it to the elements. Obviously things went down hill from there and it hadn't moved since. It was a rare beast in the UK, and what made it even rare was the fact it only had 40,000 miles on the clock. When I went to see it, it's top and bottom hood skin had seperated, bush growing through the floor, the outer drivers door skin had slid off, and the front drivers side was so rusty the dash had dropped. The owner sold me the hood ornament for a £1, which polished up quite nicely. The cars no longer there now.
James: What a glorious picture you painted. That is incredible! Too bad the wagon was so very sad, though. They were not common when new, here, never mind one there! Such a sad sight to see a great old car lying abandoned like that.
Thanks for the compliments re the painting. As for the car, it was a very sad site. What always struck me was the size. It was like a train carriage. I'd never seen one of these before in real life nor magazine so it was extremely fascinating for me. I often daydreamed about restoring it, but it was so bad the owner said it'd snap in half if moved.
Rusty crusty rareity That is a really sad story on the Polara. However your painting is outstanding and one really beautiful piece of artwork. Super job.
