News is out that GM remewed the El Camino and Nomad trademarks earlier this year. Does this mean they will import the Holden UTE as an El Camino? I will believe it when I see it. They also renewed the trademark on Nomad, a Holden wagon anyone? http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f13/holden-ute-heading-us-gm-trademarks-el-camino-nomad-114908/
Santa Silverfox.........I would like a '70 SS396 El Camino for Christmas please! An auto/AC model if possible please!
Me thinks that this was just a way for some enterprising young Aussie GM PR guy to keep their factory in the news. From what I have read, things are pretty bleak there lately (sales in the dumps). Then again, Chevy at least has had a habit of bringing out some rather limited production vehicles, like the SSR, and the short 6-year run of the HHR. As to renewing the name trademarks, that's a no-brainer. Even if they don't use them again, the names themselves are too valuable to GM to see them diluted by other company's products.
Won't be surprised to see them bring in the Holden Ute as an El Camino. Makes sense since the Aussie's have had a big market for these things for years and the car is already up and going over there. Guess it will depend on what they percieve the market is like for either of these cars. It would add a little pizazz to the Chevy lineup.
I saw one of these done up as a Pontiac G8 'sport pick-up' at the 2008 Los Angeles auto show. It was actually in the pipeline for production and importation, just prior to Pontiac getting the axe.... It was very sharp-looking.
