Hi Everyone, I LOVE station wagons and was wondering why no one had a website forums for station wagons. Duh! Just discovered these forums last week! My station wagon history? The first car I had was a 1972 Toyota Corolla Station Wagon (2 dr). It was actually my parents' car, but that car was my 'wheels' in high school and it was already 12 years old at that time. The 'higher-end' 1600 model with the 2-speed automatic transmission. (Yep, actually just 2-speed auto box!) She had a black interior and the exterior color was a dark mustard yellow (with a bit of emphasis on mus'turd' color). I loved that car and spent a lot of time in there with my first girlfriend, too. I've had several vehicles since then, but I've always had a soft spot for getting another station wagon. (Even my wife prefers wagons to SUVs and the dreaded minivans!) Hope to chat wagons with you all going forward... Regards, Mike
I had one years ago too...same color ...but it ended up with a 2800cc Ford v6 in it!!...then it was fun!! to the farm...and if anyone can talk you into a old wagon.. ..its us!!
Welcome Mike! Any idea what you might choose? Good thing the wife has good vibes for wagons. Mine LUVS our wagon too. You only need one challenge when you're restoring a wagon.
Thank you for the welcome! 'the Rev' - Wow! I've never heard of anyone else who had a wagon like that! My senior year of high school, the old Corolla wagon met its demise for the family: My father was driving her on the freeway and we heard a loud noise from the engine. Sounded like the ol' motor ate a valve... We traded in that old girl (13 years old at that time) on a Toyota truck (2WD). Had that truck for almost 20 years, but still miss that wagon... Still have hopes that she's alive somewhere and being driven... Haven't had much luck trying to find one in decent shape to buy. But, I wouldn't mind having a 60's or 70's Buick wagon. Maybe a Sport Wagon or an Estate Wagon. Just love Buicks for some reason (don't ask me why, just do)... At a GoodGuys show here in CA. last springtime, there was a '63 Skylark with the aluminum V8 - only 73K miles and in pristine condition. They wanted $7500 and I was very close to getting it. My wife knocked some sense into me (it was a 2 door and not a wagon) - at the time we were wanting to start a family (now have a 4 month old daughter) and a 2 door Buick didn't make much sense. Now a Buick wagon... My wife actually has a '68 Chevy stepside pickup that is at her parents' home. "Betsy" will get restored someday. Just wonder if I will get a wagon first or if Betsy will get restored first... I don't know - would a Mazda 3 'wagon' be eligible here? ;-)
I said the same thing... thats why aI started this one! Welcome to the forums and good luck search for a wagon.
I hear ya'. I love Buicks (and Olds' too...I've owned 4 Olds and 6 Buicks...just no wagons yet). I keep daydreaming of a Buick Estate Wagon, although I prefer the 80-90 models. Unfortunately, the wife isn't as keen on wagons (she likes SUV's ), so I don't have the backing of the boss. She'll let me have what I want (within reason), but since I have a car that works, she sees no reason for me to get another. But in the new year, we have some plans that may present an opportunity, so... fingers crossed!!! Anyways, You'll have a good time here.
Thank you for the warm welcome TopherS! I'm looking forward to the GoodGuys event this Sat.Sun. (Nov. 8/9) at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, CA. Lots of hot rods and muscle cars, but I always see a Buick or two there. I also keep my eyes open for any wagons - although those are more rare... Regards, Mike
..well Mike..when i was younger(ouch).. i went thru a phase of Mazda 808 wagons and Toy Corolla wagons...they all ended up with Ford v6's in them!! I think i went thru 3 Toys...and 7 or8 Mazdas
LOL! I know what you mean - I'm not exactly a 'spring chicken' anymore myself... You really have had your share of Toyotas and Mazdas, haven't you?! I wouldn't even want to put that ol' Ford V6 in one - just a plain Toyota Corolla station wagon would make this guy happy. One difference with US vs. Japan cars though - it does seem to be much easier (in general) to get American car parts for older cars than it does for Japanese cars. (Even Japanese cars from the 70s are tricky to get NOS or even replica replacement parts.) Cheers, Mike
Australia's plants made them for South Africa, Indonesia and New Zealand, so you'd have to look there for parts.
Good to know! I had seen brochures for sale and also RHD versions of those early Toyotas, but didn't know they were actually manufactured in Australia! Hmmm...a trip to New Zealand to look for parts... Now that would be a fun trip...
Wouldn't mind planning a trip to New Zealand! (Just that having a wife and a 3 1/2 month old daughter at home crimps the ol' "parts hunting" travel...)
