Would you wood this wagon? I realize that woodgrain was not available in 64, but then neither was most of this car. I was thinking of putting wood on it, with the top being broken off by the factory 64 upper body side mouldings and the lower being contained by 65 lower body side mouldings at the ridge line of the lower portion of the body .

I really like this wagon!! I think I would go no wood, but that's just me. I think a solid color would look awesome!

Love the interior shot! That stickshift looks way cool! As for the wood, what would you do for molding around the wood? Are you wanting to keep it stock looking on the outside or will you be putting aftermarket tires/wheels? I imagine your wagon lowered, some cool tires/wheels, tinted windows and a slick two-tone paint.

Personally, I think it would look better without that much wood. But, if you confine the wood to the lower body sides below the 1965 style side trim, it would be more in keeping with the style of the 67-72 Vista Cruiser woodys.

But another thought would be to obtain a second set of 64 side trim, and installing it several inches below the factory side trim (just below the door handles), and then "wood" the 5 or 6 inches in between in a real dark "espresso" woodgrain so that up close you would see the woodgrain treatment, but from a distance it would look like a black side stripe.

I think it depends on the colour you choose for the car. If it is the right colour, and the right shade of wood, it could look very nice indeed. I would be tempted to borrow a leaf (no pun intended) from G.M. in the 70s on the clamshell, and use a semi-transparent dy-noc so the colour of the car influences the colour of the woodgrain. That really helps it blend in. Otherwise, I might be tempted to go with a 2 tone effect, and paint the contrasting colour between the moldings.

I just don't think it would look right on that car, not that it would look bad though!

Hard to say, maybe if you have or know some one whith photoshop skills have them make a demo pic. If you were to wood, IMO you should then stay with the "Olds" style of wood from the era.

    Some wood

I was kind of thinking of something like this
This faux wood car has been in several movies, I found these and a bunch more here on the Movie data base. My car will be as orange as orange can be, and will have the roof rack installed.

    To wood or not...

a64olz... I have thought of doing the same wood application on my '85 VW Quantum wagon. Need someone to do a photoshop to see what it would look like. Anyone here doing Photoshop? Thanks, David.

Yessssss, that's what I'm talking about. That scheme is what I am considering. That car is cool, big bad blue. I would love to see some close ups of that wood. What times are you turning?
