Well, not what you want to hear again but I think your better off in the long run :hide: sorry.

    Your 2 new choices....well!:thumbs2:

I like the big comfeeeee Merc, big comfeeeeeeee back seat if ya know what I mean:dancing: but then again as mentioned.... When do you ever see a Ford hand Grenade (yes I said Grenade) driving around let alone a 2 door.

I've driven and friends way back have owned them Grenades and they are well driving solid car. They just happened to be in the point of time as disposables and thats part of the reason you hardly see any today. It's inline 6, if it's been taken care of and you take care of it, it will go forever.

dont know too much about the inline 6's... so what if they werent taken care of, will it give me crap loads of problems?

Lets re-word that (that will really screw things up:biglaugh:) ...not trashed to begin with etc. It's old now, who knows how long grand paps car has sat etc. Says it needs a battery, I'd bring one, done it before. Not being able to street test drive it is allways a gamble IMO. The Merc by the sounds of it can(?) be test driven, thats some thing to think about also.....you race a car, I'm sure your very familuar with the 2 foot gas and brake so the car won't stall:)(y)

yeah, bringing one is a must. and by the looks of it, it seems to be on a side street. im not apposed to illegally test driving it. now about the merc, i thought it was common for older cars to need to heat up first? but honestly, im not real sure what your talking about with the 2 foot driving?!

1982: The Granada/Monarch was a Maverick/Comet with a different, slightly larger body o it. From what I understand, there is nothing particularly bad in the design or engineering. As with any car of that vintage, watch for rust. In its absence, you have a nice car to drive. The 250 I-6 is a decent engine, not too bad on gas, but no speedster. The C-4 automatic is very durable. If ir ever goes, a mechanical AOD is a straight bolt-in replacement.

That Grand Marquis looks a trifle rough, but would likely be a pretty good driver with some work. If it is a carbureted 302, again no power house, but there is improvement very available. Start with switching out the 2 bbl VV carb for an Edelbrock performer 4 bbl intake and 1401 square bore carb. Add dual exhaust, and you will likely fix the rough running. They are also incredibly comfortable to drive, and suspension upgrades, using the Trailer Tow III suspension, are very easy and not that expensive. keep in mind, the scrap value of the Grand marquis is, at the moment, about $500, so if you don't spend more than that on buying it, you can't lose anything, even if it is a complete wreck!

In either case, the steering boxes normally need rebuilding about every 30 years or 150,000 miles, which occurs first. In both cars, the steering fluid is Type F transmission fluid. Don't let anyone tell you that Mercon will work. It is the wrong viscosity and you will blow the sector shaft seal.

Personally, I love how the Grand drives, but the Grenada is going to be unusual. You just don't see many around any more. Have fun. If I can help, let me know. I've been working on these old Fords a LONG time.

Forget the '73 Century and the '83 Delta. Those seem like they're going to be just more headaches for you. Chevette Scooter doesn't seem too bad, but you're getting a very basic vehicle there - not much more than an engine, a seat and 4 tires. Not sure I could live with something that austere day after day. The Cutlass could be a winner. I didn't see a price - ?

i could live with the 'vette, but only if it has or i can put in a radio with a cd player and an audio hook in for my ipod. but forgot to put the price to the cutlass, its $900. also, thats what i thought about the century and delta 88, but id figured id show what i found anyway. although, i do really, really, really like the styling of the century.

Oooooh get that Delta 88 and put a rebuilt Q-jet on top. They're not expensive. $400 car, $179 carb from National, problem solved. Delta 88's are solid cars. I've had a few...should have kept every single one but something else always caught my eye.

I'm not certain that the poor Century is even good enough to be derby fodder. Sitting on grass like that, I would bet the undercarriage is shot! Too bad, too, since it looks like a fairly solid example. For the price, though, it just may be worth a look, bearing in mind that it does seem to have lots of good parts, and the scrap value is roughly $500. If nothing else, you may make a bit of cash parting it out, and add that to the kitty for a real car.

The Delta looks solid, and is likely well worth the asking price.

That Cutlass looks impressive. Especially if the exhaust was done properly.

The Chevette Scooter i would not touch with a barge pole. They go so far as to redefine basic. The Scooter was the stripped out version of a very basic car. They are horrible to live with. I know someone who tried.

I would stay away from the front wheel drive Cadillacs, too. Any car that HAS to use shock absorbers that cost $1,100 each, plus labour, is just not for me. Also, the cross member that the K-frame attaches to is very prone to rot, and that is a prohibitively expensive repair.

looked at all of them and the only one i would even be able to try to get is the jeep.

well, iv sent him an email. we'll see what happens!

yeah, its ashame though, cause i really love that styling.

yeah, i wasnt looking at newer caddys anyway. if i were to go after a caddy, it would be a 85 or older.
