What is the secret to removing the headrest from a 78 Impala with a bench seat? Thanks

Not 100% sure that your headrests are the same as the later ones on Camaro and Cavalier bucket seats, but this is the tool that works for those. Made one out of brass shim and it works. I fing that pulling the headrest all the way up, and then working the tool in and down while pushing the headrest back down works best to get it in. Pull headrest up again whil holding tool down, and push rest and tool down again. There is a little tang built into the seat frame you ar trying to get to bypass a hole in the headrest. Once tool is fully seated, pull the headrest up and out. You may need to change the width dimensions to fit you particular seat.

I think the back side. Try there first, if you feel resistance when trying to push the tool in, it's the correct side.

    Hope it works,
    Tom
