Luckily I have never had this problem. But am laughing at all of the cures for it.
I'd suggest getting a coffee can, leaving a cup of coffee in, add a banana peel, sprinkle with baking soda over the funny pages of your newspaper, adding just a bit of Zep auto freshener, make sure you only buy it at Auto Zone, place the seats in the hot sun for a minumum of two days, and drink the bottle of Vodka !
This may not work but you really won't care anymore!:D
Please do not drive the car, with or without the seats, for several more days. Texting is optional.

I don't know if any of those other ideas work but I think this will. Charcoal briquets. Use the plain kind, not match light! Crush/break apart and place in shallow dish and slide under offending seat or place in floorboard and leave for several days. This should absorb most smells like the coffee trick but with no odor. I have found that this will eliminate almost(not all) cigarette/cigar smells.

There's a product called Odoban or Odorban that works on a friends shop after his 5 dogs stink up the cement floors for a week!!
I've used it a few times, and it works well.

The cars in the self serve boneyards around here all smell like an alpine meadow in the spring.:)
If you sit in one of those junkers and close your eyes you can almost hear Julie Andrews singing The Sound of Music.:p
They must buy little pine tree air fresheners by the case because every car has about ten of them hanging from the mirror.

This is my favorite air freshener design of all time, my wife does not share my enthusiasm.:biglaugh:
