The city criminals that run Round Rock Texas have recently installed red light cameras on many of the intersections here in town. As far as I'm concerned all these do is steal money from people, and serve no real use other than lining the town's pockets. Well driving back to work from lunch, someone looks to have run both of the ones down at the corner of Mays and Hwy 79. Good for whoever did this public service. Seeing these smashed to the ground along the roadside made my afternoon! -Mike
Well..... it is your tax $ that installed them, now it's your tax $ plus for repars, $ for the police to get involved with a investigation..... if you don't run red lites, shouldn't be a problem having them..... if people didn't run red lites your tax $ would never have been spent on them to begin with.....
I also hate those cameras but agree if people obeyed the laws we wouldn't need laws, police, or cameras. I'd suspect someone is in a heap o trouble. After all these incidents should be on camera. That is if they were working. I actually got a ticket with my 55 Chevy wagon for running a red lite in Orlando, Florida. I posted this another time. Since it was on camera the Sheriff department car running the light was on video. In this case it proved me innocent......As I always am!
I'm with Mike on this one. I don't want ANY government cameras watching me at ANY time. None. Period.
If your cops would do the job they were hired for, there would be no need for red lite cameras. Damm unions ...
Just another thing for me to sit and gripe about! I had no idea a red lite ticket was so expensive ! And I have noticed that yellow lites are only on a very short time. Some barely flicker yellow to red. Another thing I've noticed, Florida to Illinois, and back, trees, bushes, signs, etc are restricting the view of all types of signs. This often makes a traffic lite unviewable until nearly to late to stop. Also makes finding the next highway marker a pain in the butt. At 70+ MPH it is often too late to turn. This is even a problem on interstates with those very large brown info signs telling what, where, and how far it is to point "Z". If they truly wanted to help drivers and make things safer these things would never happen. I spent 30 minutes on I 24 Kentucky driving in circles after I took an off ramp for fuel. Couldn't get back on the on ramp to continue because it was closed for ?????? :banghead3: I woke up perfectly happy. Now I'm P*^#d !
As our great country requires, you can go to court and fight a ticket for running a red lite via camera. I did, and beat it. I asked for the cop who gave the ticket to say his side of the arguement. No cop, No case, so mine got thrown out. At 27th Avenue and San Pablo Avunue is Oakland, Ca they have one. It sits a intersection where the freeay onramp to highway 24 connects going to the Bay Bridge towards San Francisco. At the intersection theres 4 lanes of traffic, 2 to go straight onto the freeway and one to make the left turn onto San Pablo Avenue and one to make a right turn. Now the camera did take a picture of the front of my Buick and got a shot of me driving, but I stated under oath, I did not run the red light. The camera maybe malfunctioned , maybe it saw somebody else run it, or maybe nobody ran it. No cop to rebut my story so I got out of it. Easy as that, all it cost me was a day at work. Horrible inconvence
One in Elk Grove got me for stopping past the white line, before making my right turn! Picture clearly showed the car in the center lane stopped way past the white line, blocking the view! Musta thrown it out when I said "show it to a judge, and let him issue a warrant", as I never heard another word about it!! They've pulled out about 3-4 of 'em in that town - just to collect money, as it isn't a mover!!
I've heard if your bumper is past the white line when stopping you legally ran the red light. Down here, and most places I've been the average driver usually has their REAR bumper on or over that white line. They don't have any idea what or where those lines or cross walks are. But many know how to text or talk! I was a trucker. Like to think a safe and courteous trucker. Now I'm a grouchy old man! Our neighbor is an ex County and State cop. When I ride with him I even chew hm out and most others along the way. He says I'd make a heck of a cop!
Cat - I'm aware of your driving around here - we've probably crossed paths at one time or another! I'm approaching 2m miles in the Chicagoland area - cabs, limo's, straight jobs, pick-up's, SUV's, and even a messenger service, in 46 years. Can avoid cops, traffic jambs, and the other Chicagoland season - construction, with the best of 'em, but have to commend you on driving a semi around, and hope you agree the 'traffic cam' is one of the worst things out there!
It's been 18 years since I drove a big rig and at least 10 since I was in Chicago. But traffic seems to be much the same everywhere we go now. They drive just as bad in the small towns and in the boonies as downtown Orlando or Chicago. All truckers have to remember about Chicago is-- duck!
"Easy as that, all it cost me was a day at work. Horrible inconvence " LOL...Any day off work is GREAT!
It's been awful ! I've been off work since June 1st 1994 without hardly a vacation. This retirement is rough!
