I drive my 66 C/S to work in rush hour traffic ...50 minutes each way...with a 390 in it ....you can watch the gas gauge move but if i wasnt driving a cool wagon everyday....with my temper...i'd probably kill somone in traffic if i was driving some 'econo bucket' ....."you cant put a price on cool".....thats my feelings
I'm with you Rev... My drive to and from work everyday is something I look forward to. My '58 Safari is my only driver at the moment. I've put almost 10,000 miles on it since I got her on the road and I'll have to drive it till I get my '66 on the road. Then I'll alternate depending on what I'm working on. The 'smiles per gallon' are worth every penny. Some on other peoples faces, lots on mine. And while I understand Dewey Satellites point about worrying about all that work, I'd rather have more of a beater and drive it than a show car and store it. (And talk to me about finding parts...I needed a '58 only, Pontiac only, wagon only, rear door.)
My Model A Coupe is my daily-driver ..... but my Chevy II Wagon will be as soon as I've completed it transformation.... and I'm getting close
My `88 doesn't meet the requirement of the thread, but I feel compelled to add that I drive it daily in the non-salt seasons. I put about 2,500 miles on it a month.
i was driving a 92 caprice with almost 200,000miles daily 50mi round trip to work. but i got sick of rust repair on it, and pen dot is doing their best to make sure that cars rust as fast as they can. now, instead of just rock salt they spray a highly corrosive liquid ice melter on the road too. because rock salt cant get into the nooks and crannies that a liquid can. so i had to replace it with a new '12 ford focus. but i did the right thing. i sold the caprice to a kid that i felt was gonna take care of her...i was right ...she is well loved and is now garage kept.
Mine's getting a workout lately but mostly highway miles. 250 miles round trip out to cottage country every week or thereabouts. It's not a great grocery-getter, I prefer to not drive it in town much.
I fully plan on having my '58 Chevy wagon as my daily.. yes, daily. I've got an aluminum radiator I'm waiting on, installing an electronic fan, yadda, yaddda. Once I get it on the road, if I'm not happy with the TH350 tranny I'll definitely upgrade to a 700R4. I see no reason why, just because they are old they should not be driven daily. If you have working lights, wiper, defrost, and heat... why not? As someone else stated.. the mechanics are more simplified so if something DOES go wrong somewhere that fixing it would be pretty straight forward and a whole lot cheaper than those electronic, sensor plagued plastic crumple units that everybody is driving around out there. Life's too short to have to settle for a "uni-can" with 4 wheels like everybody else. There's a reason everybody looks, comments and gives you a thumbs up when you're driving around... makes them feel GOOD. So if you're gonna drive.. you want to drive something that makes YOU feel good. Parking a classic in a sea of plasti-cans is just too fun. Watching people check out your car is a lot of fun too. Drive em! Daily!
73 Super, that's a great looking wagon. Big fan of the '58s myself and am driving the Pontiac version. Mine's quite the beater in comparison.... I'm going to have to look and see if you've posted more info on that one.
smiles to the gallon man...thats what Im talkin bout too and Teej....which door you looking for??...(PM me your answer too)
Two years ago I lost my '90 Taurus when a women in an SUV totaled it. Then... lost the house to the bank months later because the economy had dried up. With only a few bucks in the bank I purchased an old 1958 Ford Ranch wagon and due solely to the aid of a good friend got into the t-shirt business. I am the artist and he is the mouth. Between the two of us we hit all the local car shows hawking our custom designed and screen printed t-shirts in my and his '64 Belair wagon. I drive ratmobile#2 every day! Our web site is: Ratholecustoms.com.
my '80 Datsun 510 wagon has made my 40 mile round trip commute since September of 2008. it has 177k on the clock as of now. I split 12-15 hours daily, 5-6 days a week between these two vehicles.
I drive my waygun every chance I get. I do long hauls in it and do transport large items. I average 10,000 miles a year in it. For city driving my newest member to the family is a really clean 83 Dodge 400 coupe. It doubles as my part time pizza delivery car.
