Well, Thornton, actually, which is a northern suburb. Just bought a '72 Buick wagon and I am excited to get it going. It had been sitting for years, so I drained the old gas out (10 gallons of dark amber, smelly stuff) and changed the oil, checked and filled the coolant and fired her up. The guy I bought it from had been driving it recently and said it ran great but had a slight knock. Well, maybe a large knock. I drove it around the neighborhood, but it wouldn't idle and had a pretty good, but occasional knock. That seems strange to me. I will have to diagnose it. Anyone know a good mechanic in Denver for these "old" engines? i don't know alot about engine internals, but love wrenching on old cars. This forum looks great! John
Welcome Bart. Occasional knocks could be a sloppy piston pin or a weak valve spring. I'd start with a compression test.
Welcome to the nut house. Those engines are great so if you need to rebuild it you can do it,really easy to so using a video after all the machine work. Let us know how it goes. Norman you trying to get sloppy again?

I'm having a Ford complex right now. I think my daughter's 86 tbird is going to crappy Ford heaven very very soon. Now it has a charging problem. Replaced the ignition switch and brake light switch. Now it won't charge. No idiot light either. I'm getting very tired of working on her car and any car. The last 10 weekends have been car work. I'm thinking a sledgehammer party is in order.

Thanks for the warm welcome... My wagon has the vinyl top with the roof rack, roll up windows, third row seating and A/C. It's currently at Colorado Engine determining how fatal the knock is. Should know by later today. She will need paint, but the interior is great.
