For sale on craigslist in PA. Sharp car. 1981 was the last year for the midsize LeMans and the only year for the "aero" front end. This has to be a rare Pontiac wagon - I can't recall if I have ever seen one before now. http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/cto/3097508793.html
For starters he wants WAYYYYY too much for it. My folks had the 4 door car version of this one. Its a Chevy Malibu in drag. Another gutless wonder. These were the worst years for GM. Vettes had a fuel injected computer that was awful, and these had tiny rivoted carbs that couldnt be tuned unless you drilled out the rivots. Best adbvice .. stary clear of this. Its clean but Looks can be deciving.
It looks good in the photos. It needs the factory wire-wheel covers, or maybe a set of the honeycomb wheels from a similar-era Grand Prix. The wheel covers it has on it remind me of what you'd find on a Dodge Dynasty.
I wouldn't say $2,500 is too much for this wagon, if it's as clean as it shows in the pics. Also, jwdtenn mentions that this one was the last year for the mid-sized LeMans. Technically that's correct, but Pontiac still offered this same body through the 1984 model year. It might have been called 'Grand LeMans', or even 'Bonneville' and had a different front end, but it was the same basic vehicle.
JMT455's 83 is fine example, KK and this one also... http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20018
I love that front end on this bu sized wagon! This looks like a nicely cared for car from here that is just CRYING for a V8! I really like the looks of this one.
Bashing? I guess I don't understand why one must bash someone else's car from clear across the country. It may be their pride and joy. The pictures don't look that bad and it would make a very good daily driver for someone on a budget looking for a cruiser. It may not have been the last of its body style, but it has great flexibilty for drivetrain and chassis modifications.
Nobody's 'bashing', Roketrex. We're just used to stating out opinions in this section. All of us have opinions that are colored by our experiences. I've got an aversion to certain wagons, and I'm sure it shows sometimes in what I post.
If it is as solid and clean as it appears in the photos, $2500 is a reasonable asking price. Fix the a/c and you'll have a very nice daily driver. And as silverfox said, dropping a V8 in it would make it even better.
