That is definite eye opener, kinda makes you wonder if America is going to be destroyed by its own greed instead of by war or conflict. The Chinese have slowly but surely it seems creeped in and took over most of our infrastructure while a privileged few got mega rich. A communist country is now pretty much in control of our financial stability as a country...to me that's terrifying.

As much as I want to, I won't get into politics here or how much I miss my America, but, if you didn't see this coming you have to be blind. I'm honestly glad that I'm on my way out of this world rather than on my way in.

I hate to copy. But this pretty much says it all for us older Americans.
At least we were born Americans and will die Americans !

What happened to our American dream ?
Greed and ignorance now controls what's left of America.

I watch American Graffiti and I am truly jealous of the America you two got to enjoy. Even the America of the 70's that I remember was one of pride and hard work. The future always seemed bright and prosperous. Now I think about what my grand children will face and I know they will never feel what it's like to say "I'm American" and feel nothing but pride and satisfaction. There are days I'm almost glad my Dad never had to see what has happened to the country he put his life on the line for. Maybe that's why we love wagons so much, innocence, fun and family all existed under that longroof on endless summer days camping or having a picnic in a park. If we keep them rolling that part of America will never die.

There are so many good things said in this post that I don't know where to start so, I'll just say well said and a great post, Dewey.
Know what I wish? I wish everyone from around age 50 on down could go back to the 40's, then the 50's and live for a year. When they all came back we would be taking America back from those that have stolen it.

Amen to that Fox, I don't know if my American Graffiti reference is correct as far as the "feel" of that era, but I would like to think it's somewhat accurate. I love that movie, I love the cars and the cinematography, the music, etc...innocence and fun being the overriding theme. I found a directors cut on DVD a few years back and I have just about wore the thing out.

My question for you and Cat would be: How accurate is this movie?

IMO, the report is missing the point.
GM saw an opportunity - to sell a vast number of vehicles to a huge emerging market. Somebody was going to be selling a lot of cars over there, why not GM? How is this any different than Honda, Toyota et al selling their vehicles in the U.S. market and eventually building them here? Don't most of the profits come back here to the U.S.? GM's partnership with the China companies has allowed them to have modern up-to-date vehicles that compete on a world-class level. Without GM the country wouldn't have been able to meet demand, and the cars would have been crap.

GM is investing overseas in China because it's a good business decision, period.

KK I have to agree with you to some degree as well, I see this article is trying to villanize GM, but IMO there are very few companies that are not doing the same thing. I have 25,000 parts in my Napa store right now and I can tell you it's damn hard to find a hand full that are made in the USA. My point about the "old days" was that back then America seemed to be more concerned with keeping jobs here at home not farming it all out to other countries where labor is cheap...in the meantime my friends are loosing their houses because they can't find work anywhere, some have been searching for 2 years now. It's a vicious cycle it seems.

This is somewhat old news. Gm sold the Hummer to china way back before Gm ment Government Motors. The chinese have been buying US patents on most everything , since they own most of the 16 plus trillion dollar debt. He who has the moost money makes their own rules. Hence why manufacturing in the states is quickly dwindling. Top this with the fact that , endless rules and regulations make opening a business here extreamly hard. The mass regulations and rules make businesses who can't leave the country fold and the ones who can go, bail for another country. Less costly to operate, less rules , less taxes, make china ideal for a business. Course it makes life hard for the common employee. He and his family suffer. We are witnessing the demise of america.. its pretty sad if you asked me. Thoes of you with kids know your children will have a much more difficult time in life then you did. With 49 million more people today getting food stamps and welfare then just three years ago , umemployment steadly rising, food prices going up, fuel prices rising ... social security and medicare both bankrupt, meaning there's more people drawing these intitlements then there are paying into them .... inside of three years as sad as it is, I see the once great america going over the cliff into financial ruin. We will be in the same financial sitsuation most of europe is in today. Greece on the verge of default, spain with their 30% unemployment rate, I see it coming here also. If and when greece or Italy actually go bankrupt we will feel the ripple effect here since all the banks are intertwined and we will truly feel the big hurt. the times they are a changing.

Your kids and grandkids will have it very hard. Glad I don't have any children.
