I had to identify my good friend Gordy Roy, 22 years ago. RIP http://www.worksafebc.com/news_room/campaigns/day_of_mourning/default.asp
Us too. As annoying as it can be having your coworker correct you, it is all for your own safty. Sorry this happened to your coworker Tedy and you had to do this deed.
It is all about awareness of the risks so many people work in every day just to earn a basic living. We so often overlook what can happen in an instant of not paying attention. Have a friend who as a crossing guard at the school managed to push a child out of the way of a speeding non- attentive driver. She was hit, hard, and is buggered up for the rest of her life. Thanks for the reminder, Tedy. It is a sad thing when you have to do what you did.
I cant load the link, but I understand work safety. About a year before I started working at General Mills there was a new, young employee who didnt heed safety. This factory is a breads factory and the lines have metal cylinder rollers to thin out the dough. Some of these rollers can be as much as 8 to 12 inches thick with only half to a quarter of an inch of space between some... This young employee thinking he knew better, lost his hand and part of his arm to these rollers... Tedy, Im sorry yot had to do it... Some we are left without a choice but to do the hardest things in life... Sometimes life doesnt give you a choice. Best thing we can do is live our lives in a manner that honours our experiences...
Safety is a big issue everywhere. Here in the USA there are many rules and laws. Yet the company I worked for preached safety from one side of their mouths and 100% production out the other. Getting production is more important to some!
One of the things I appreciated most about the factory I worked at was that safety was more important than production. We had great production though. Every so many hours worked without accident or injury there would be huge banquet lunches. Steaks, burgers, and deserts and a whole bunch of other good things. There were three of these in the year+ I worked there...
Did they furnish the bread free? My first job was in a factory office. But I went to another office for shipping orders and used to get free bread dough. It was a yeast and malt syrup factory and the dough was samples for the day. We had fresh hot bread at home for five years. Never heard of an accident at the yeast house. But the big factory I went to later was more interested in 110% than safety.
