A guy at Longroof Forums located a donor vehicle at a yard and I need to get some trim pieces from it. I don't know what method or procedure there is for taking the trim off or dealing with the little clips and the small posts they're attached to. My car is missing several of the clips and I'd like to get those as well. Any help would be appreciated. Here's a pic of the trim and clips from my car. Thanks, Mike.
The molding snaps over those type clips. A good stiff putty knife should work, get under the molding on one end and slowly pry it out with the tool out until it pops off the clips working from one end to the other. Make sure there aren't any bolt or screw on clips anywhere holding it too. Put some masking tape on the knife blade or use some thin material like cardboard to pry against so you don't damage the paint, be gentle. Those studs are welded to the body, the molding clips have a keyhole and slide over them, slide the clips to the left or right depending how they were installed and they pull right off
I'm sure it was in one of Cyber's treads we talked about this and the different tools we use. But there are many that I use for trim and in sheet metal work... Very thin, Come in 8",6",and 4" lengths x 1.5" or 1'' wide. These also, bit thicker but you can get them as narrow 1/2 inch wide also in same lengths as above. This also comes in small sizes, very usefull Vynal siding tools. Very similar for car trim in how to use You roll under and hook the trim edge and gently pull down and away just enouph to free it from the clip Very imprtant tool so you don't scratch paint, tape panel and or the tool. And if all else fails, this comes in several shapes and sizes, and most homes have one!
