Hey fellow wagon fans! Anybody have suggestions/leads on where I may find replacement rubber for my clamshell tailgate (1975 Chevrolet Caprice Estate) window? Thanks in advance for any help!
http://soffseal.com/ or http://secure.steelerubber.com/homeframes.html Soffseals website suck --S...i'd just phone
I think he means the vertical ones where the tailgate window slides. The only vendor that might have them is KARR. It is not on their website (set there was (is?) quite expensive; approx $500). As I write, somebody in Illinois will take a piece of that weatherstripping from a parts car and will sent it to me, so I can (at least) try to convince Steele (I know somebody there) to have those made for all the clamshell owners. From the about 20 clamshells here in The Netherlands only my Buick has decent ones. So I think they can make money with it worldwide.
Wow, 75RivGS, that's a great idea! (BTW, how did so many clamshells make it over to The Netherlands?). I'm sure I speak for all clamshell owners when I say, "I'll keep my fingers crossed they'll begin producing our seals!" Thanks for the support! Thanks Rev too, I'll check them out as well. Truckster is right, I am looking for the vertical pieces that run along the window's tracks. Mine actually feel like hard plastic and are falling off in pieces. Btw, may I ask about the inspiration of your screen name, Rev?
well son..pull up a chair and i shall tell you the story of "Rev"... this is the 'Readers Digest' version... I was the announcer at a drag strip for yeeeaaars. and racer friends decided to start calling me Reverend Ricco...refering to my Sundays as..'my service'.. then one day after the races...they had a big shindig at their pit area...after waaay tooo many wobbly pops my friend Guy.. ..gets up on a lawn chair and does this big presentation !! and presents me with a letter of confirmation and my 'ordainment papers'... ...we all laugh.......good joke!! 2 weeks later i get a call from a guy in Cali...who is the head muky muk for the "Church" they did it thru... I was in shock!!!!....you mean this is real?!?!?...well i'll be ....d......d.. Now heres the real funny part!!.....I sorta take it seriously!! or more accurately...it sort of woke up something in me... to the point where i have people asking me to do weddings and such all the time So...the names kinda stuck with me for years now...i have people come up to me at shows...that dont even know my real name...its just.."Hi Rev" but before this gets tooo serious!! I'm available evry Thursday for birthdays and barmitzphas Probably not what you were expecting huh???
All this talk about these great clamshell wagons, please!!! It just reminds me more and more of the fact that I sold my '72 Safari with 455 for next to nothing, which turns out to be one out of 20 here in Holland!!!
Rev, What a great story! Thank you for sharing! I had to ask, because I have a "church" story too.... Not long ago, I graduated with my M.Div. degree from seminary. Due to a difference in socio-political positions with the church, I resigned my candidacy to get ordained; but still have my degree and training. Since then, I have been contacted once or twice for spiritual consultations and to officiate a wedding. In very different arenas perhaps, it appears we sorta have something in common.
not too different tho !! hope my avatar doesnt offend anyone.. cept now...you will forever be ..."wagonmaster"...to a lot of people..(i'd trade you)..
While we're on this Off-topic hi-jack, a little story of my own: Back in 1964, my mother had a successful ladies seamstress shop, across from a new Roller-rink and a whore-house (Hull, Quebec on Eddy Street - Stef). My kid-sisters (3 of them) wanted to finish their education in English, but none of us liked Ottawa - too many political pundits in our Capital. So my dad set out to Oshawa (GM factories) to see if he could find a job and a house big enough for 5 growing teens and another shop for my mother's business. The house he found was rented by old seniors on the 3rd floor and by the summer vacations, I was shipped off to help rebuild the house. We kept the seniors - who were great, tough old birds with lots of stories until most had to leave for the dust and noise, except this old Nova Scotian Navy Carpenter and Saw Filer. He worked on the Blue Nose and other old Atlantic yachts and frigates. His name was Fred Sweeney. One of the funniest old farts I ever had the pleasure of knowing, and a great cowboy novel collector. Well, Fred was a bit rough on the edges. My mother liked him, but she was always leary that he might crack in with some of his tales of his exploits in Halifax bars, in front of my sisters and kid-brother. I already knew most of them. Anyway, one Thanksgiving dinner, my grandfather is invited and we're all dressed up for dinner, my mother all proud of the lovely table and all the trimmings, and she bravely asks Fred to say Grace. Fred's all flustered and proud at this honour, and starts: Dear Lord, We give thanks for this fine meal and all these folks with us today. A little more cake, for Christ sake, Amen. My mother's jaw dropped, my dad roared laughing so hard, looking at my mother that he fell off the chair. My grand-dad, an ex-Northwest Mounty just chuckled, and my sisters giggled, my kid=brother didn't even blink - he was only 7, and Fred asked for the cranberry sauce, like "What's the problem?" Fred was never asked to say Grace again, unfortunately. He added a whole new dimension to my mother's repertoire.
An old thread, but the continuing story on the clamshell weatherstripping keeps it actual.... yesterday I got a message through my YouTube channel: somebody contacted me whether I was interested in clamshell weatherstripping: I asked him for more details and this is what I got in return: Where, for a few years ago, KARR had their own web site, now I can't find a thing on this company (except for yellow pages etc). Using Google to find more on this company I found a few complaints...so do your home work first. All the rubber on my tail gate are excellent, so I don't need it... maybe somebody else here does.
Hi Harry, that sounds like great news if it is true. I am in Australia and timing is always a problem when calling the States. I will try and do it, but if anyone else does call, can you post and tell me if it is all true? I would take the risk and order a set. Is there another way to contact them other than by phone? All the rubbers on mine are perished and that is the only part left for the resto.
The company gets a pretty good rating (A-) by the Better Business Bureau. http://www.la.bbb.org/business-revi...nufacturing-Company-in-El-Segundo-CA-13066416 Not sure I'd be comfortable sending anybody $780, though. How about 50% down and 50% on delivery?
