I drive a truck for a living and see lots of vehicles.I wouldnt buy one because they are 30k plus, but is the ford flex a wagon or almost a wagon? What about dodge magnums, which are no longer made?

yes and yes, but neither are "full size wagons" in the traditional sense. that died in 1996 with the roadmaster

Ian - I did a size comparison in another thread some time ago between a last-generation Ford full-sized wagon an the Ford Flex. Except for the Flex being a bit taller, they were fairly similar in size.

IMO, the Flex is a station wagon.

Depends on your criteria for what makes up a wagon.

Does it fullfill the need, the market if you will, of the original Station Wagon? Then yes.

It's not a wagon in the traditional sense, but as close as you'll get from today's options.

I actually think both are in the traditional sense, they're both based on Sedan platforms.
Flex is the family wagon re-imagined and, if I recall correctly, it can swallow 4X8 sheets of ply wood or sheet rock (you choose) atop it's fold flat seating. Very traditional...
The Magnum is a 'sports' wagon; A GT, if you will. It's basically a sedan with a tall, enclosed trunk but not much more by way of utility and is damn good lookin'.

That is a bonus in itself, if it can.

I really like the Flex, I would have loved to put my wife in one mainly because I know it would be mine years down the road. But it was not "her liking"

I condider then a wagon, they IMO are the only bigger cross over/cross dresser, SUV/STD out there today that looks like a practical design.

Magnum, yeah I like the looks but IMO what good is a slant back/ fast back style in a wagon if your lage suit case has to be put in the side passenger door because it doesn't have the clearance in the back.

And, you gotta love this commercial

Tedy, I wouldn't say the roof slants down, its more of an illusion, the rear quarters angle up. there is still plenty height and tailgate room back there. A respectable 71.6cu ft of cargo space with rear sets folded flat. No, its no Roadmaster or Buick Estate in the form of cargo holding area, but it was a bad ass looking car, that could haul your stuff while hauling ass!

don't get me wrong i like fords 4 out of our 5 vehicles are fords but no way in hell is a flex a wagon . ford was embarrased to market it as a wagon it was a crossover vehicle. so lets not bestow the beloved title wagon on it.
the magnum gets a thumbs up for a wagon

I do wish they'd bring back a body on frame RWD wagon.
