2 rust free subaru wagons...an 83 and an 84...both the good years. 800 bucks for both. Of course....they have to be about 2500 miles away! http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/cto/2849935318.html
Oh man, it makes me sick too Foxie, Go get them both and I will buy the Green one from you for $800 alone! Why does everything have to be on the west side. Even if I got one, I would spend $600+ in gas to get them home + a UHaul Dolly to use one to drag the other and about $400ish to fly out there to get them. I would love me an old Scooby Doo.
Well...actually...if you bought a midwest rust bucket it would cost a lot more money and a lot more screwing around to get it half as good as these. You'd be better off just buying one of these at $450 and shipping it for $900.
All the best ones are just out of reach, I swear... Come on, Fox. Don't you want to go on a road trip?
Whats the story with the jump sears in the back? Were they available for each model year? Did they come only on a specific trim? Were they available as an option on any trim? Ive seen in person a few of the early 80s BRATs with the plastic cap. The last one I saw had the jump seats.
IIRC the jump seats were there to make it a car rather than a truck so it would be easier/cheaper to import and to register. Mine came with the seats. I believe the toppers were aftermarket. I never cared for them so I never had one. They already like to roll over on their side so I would THINK a topper would exacerbate the problem. A good place for Suby info is over at http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/
Those bed-mounted seats were actually installed to allow the vehicles to be imported under the regulations for passenger vehicles, rather than commercial (cargo) vehicles, thus allowing lower tariffs. Otherwise, the B.R.A.T. would have been priced out of the market. This is similar to what Ford is doing with the Transit Connect. They import them all with a rear seat, then take the seat out before shipping the cargo versions onto the dealers.
