Real nice. Hard for me to believe that people are throwing that kind of money at it. It is not a perfect resto by any means. At least from what little I read and viewed.

Yup. It was profiled on 'Bring-A-Trailer' yesterday, so had a look at the ad.
These were really cool wagons in their day. Only thing they lacked that would make it a real good handler was the I.R.S. (which the sedan versions had...) I don't understand all the nomenclature on the engine mods, but I guess that all means it's faster than stock.

This doesn't sound like a vehicle that somebody threw money into with the intent to spiff it up to sell - way too much put into it recently.

Bid right now is $11.7k - pretty steep for a 40 year old econobox wagon.
Question: What other small 'performance' wagon wagon could be had for that money?

    - Late model Jetta?
    - Mazda 626 (certainly available for that amount)
    - Audi A4, A6 (but watch your maintenance costs...)

Curiously, I can't think of a Nissan that would fill that bill.....

Yeah, nice rot blisters on the bottom front edge of the driver door. Still I would love to own it, them lil dual carbed Datsuns will stomp the ass off most V8's and get 30+mpg doing it. I see quite a few Oldschool Jap cars on the streets here everyday and I would love to own any one of them.

@KK, Are you referring to "The mechanicals are all new. Fresh LZ2.2 engine. L20B block bored to 87mm with L20 connecting rods and a Z2.2 crankshaft (the lower end is all balanced). On the top end, you will find a rare SSS219 cylinder head with oversized valves, ISKY stage 3 camshaft"??

Its just different Nissan engine parts from different engine sizes. Like taking a LO5 350 block, punching it .030 over, adding LT1 intake and cam and Vortec Heads, Its just Jap parts codes. Only a Jap mechanic or a Jap Tuner gearhead will understand which parts he is actually reffering to. I never heard of any of it except the L20B, they are a popular motor to be stuffed in alot of Owner Jeeps that are rebuilt from all kinds of old stuff, Just like AMC's were build from alot of leftover outdated GM, Ford and Mopar parts, hahaha.

A guy named Peter Brock, designed the 63 split window, the shelby daytona and mucho other stuff, designed and sold racing parts for the 510's in the early 70s ... BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises) ... hella interesting guy, still at it!

Yeah - I'm not up on the Japanese engine codes... About the only part of that quote that's somewhat familiar is the "SSS...cylinder head"

    Sure they were.....

    Iron Duke 2.5ltr 4 banger...GM
    AMC Jeep Cherokee's 2.8 V6... GM
Who originally made the starter in your eagle? FORD
Mid 50's used GM and Packard Trannys
    904, 727, 999, 998 Tranny.... Mopar
Jeep used both Chevy and Buick bolt patterned TH400's
    Jeep had a 3.8 Buick V6 in the 70's

I know there is more, but those are the ones I know for certain.

I know AMC sourced parts form other manufacturers, but you used the word "outdated" and that is what I was questioning. The parts that were used by AMC were in used in the other manufacturers vehicles at the same time and beyond.

    I dig the 510. :thumbs2:
