I have not posted in awhile.....still looking for that "perfect wagon". I will admit I have been tempted to stray from a wagon, I almost bought a 48' Chrysler Saratoga a couple of weeks ago. Looked at some early 40's GM stuff (non wagon) that I really like, but I keep coming back to the wagon thing Anyway, I have found a 1954 New Yorker Town and Country - have not had a chance to look at it yet. Owner states the 331 Hemi was pulled for another project and now the wagon is for sale less engine. Supposedly straight body with minor rust in the rockers, and lower doors, he says the trim is all there but needs restoring, glass is good, interior is all there but in need of restoration. Anybody ever fiddle around with or have any parts knowledge on these cars? I know there where not too many made so I'm concerned about finding replacement trim, body parts, etc. I would be doing a resto-rod type of thing to this so the missing motor does not bother me. It would probably see big block Chrysler or Chevy power and a modern auto trans. I would like the ability to restore all of the stock trim, inside and out. Looking for thoughts and comments on this potential project.
There's a very nice old Chrysler, green in color that's been for sale in the San Francisco bay area for quite some time. I'll see if i can locate a current ad link.....
Would be a perfect place to put a modern Hemi from a late-model wreck seeing as it was born with a Hemi.
I was thinking about that too - I looked around for a wiring harness for late model hemi swaps without luck. I do not have the electrical skills to do a re-wire with all of the computer stuff.
Can't seem to find it right now....... There may be an old thread on it in our 'Auctions....' section. IIRC, it was either a '54 or a '56.....can't remember which. In fact, there may have been one of each.
A buddy of mine had a modern 5.7 Hemi he bought out of a totalled Dodge pickup that he was going to put into his 69 Dart. He bought a wiring harness for the conversion from Chrysler as i recall. Never did finish the project as the building the Dart was in, burned to the ground (along with the car) after being hit by lightning. He still has the 5.7 sitting on an engine stand in his garage. Maybe one day i'll get that engine from him for my 67 Belvedere. meanwhile, I believe it was last year (or early this year), at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, there was an early 50's T&C wagon with a modern hemi under the hood (a picture of it appeared in Mopar Collectors Guide). The 5.7 Hemi conversion is becoming very popular. I've seen it done on old Dusters and Darts, Cudas and Chargers, and even a 47 Dodge that shows up on occasion at a local cruise in.
Found some. Most of them somewhat spendy... http://www.cars-on-line.com/55158.html Throwin' in a Dodge just for the heck of it..... http://www.cars-on-line.com/55896.html http://www.cars-on-line.com/35948.html http://www.cars-on-line.com/53909.html http://www.cars-on-line.com/54625.html
theres a lady in reno selling a 2 door with 2 other parts cars for around 2 grand on reno craigs just sayin
Won't be a Chrysler if it's only a 2-door. AFAIK, the '53 an on up Chryslers only came in 4-door models. Could be a Dodge or a Plymouth......
I'm going to try and look at the 54' and a couple of other potential project cars over the weekend. I will post back what I find. Anybody know if the 54' is 6v or 12v?
