I have located a 64 Ambassador Wagon 990 and it did not come with a third row of seats. Can this be added or did they have a different frame? I would imagine that the body would be the same and it would be dealer installed option but I am not sure. Anyone have any input? Thanks

I have a 67 Ambassador wagon and know 67&68 were larger and on a new frame with much more room. I believe pre 67 there was no spare tire. I have a book that might tell me your answer. Looking for it now.:banghead3:

Interesting question. I didn't think that a third seat was available in Rambler wagons of that vintage. I'll be following this thread to see if I learn something new.

I know the 65 had the option for a third row. Or at least I have read about one that had a third row. It was considered rare.

The ad is still up but the car is sold.... last fall. Bugged me to no end that it was still up a year later.

My book did not give me the answer but I did see that only 2,995 Ambassador wagons were built in 1964!!!(y) Could have bucket seats with a console ! I think they were still built on the Classic frame that year.

    In 65 or 64?
I think this 64 I am looking at has bucket seats that touch. No center console. Just the hump for the tranny.

You ninja edited me. Now I look funny.

Ok. Reading that. It looks like the Ambassador came with a 6 passenger option by folding down the cushion between the bucket seats.
Some of the smaller models had 8 passenger options. Which I would assume means a third row. I don't think folding down a cushion would be safe enough by today's (or my) standards.

Now, I need to find out if it was the same body, meaning a covered hole where I could put a seat.

Even if the car takes the jump seat...I think your biggest problem will be FINDING one and all the hardware.

I am not going for all original stuff. Between me, my dad all the tools at work and my engineer friends, I am sure we could make a seat to fold down in there. If there isn't space to fold one down, then I found another option. I think it's at littleseats.com. They custom make removable seats for kids.

The car you're looking at buying has a split bench rather than bucket seats. How much are they asking for the car, if I may ask?
