hi guys, i have a 67 country sedan and was wondering how i could get a little more air flow from the ac ducts the new cars seem to blow with a lot more force than our favorite classics any ideas??? ps all my blower speeds work and the ac has been converted to 134 and is ice cold but just not enough force from the blower thanks for any input

that was my problem exactly while the humidity level was kept way down from the shoulder level up to the roof it just couldn't get it cold especially after a hot day in the sun. thats why im adding a second unit

If the solar gain is more than the car air conditioner can handle, then the interior will not be as cool as you prefer, you can add additional units to the car as one person suggested. However, a better way would be to add a product called Dynamat to the floor and interior roof which will then retard both the solar gain and the heat that is absorbed through the floor. As an added benefit, the car will be much quiet than before. If you want to go to the extreme, you can open up the doors and install it on the inside of the door. Add a light tint to the glass, and it will be as cold inside that car as it is in your refrigerator at home.
There are other brands, and even though I am not familiar with them, I have been told that they can be purchased less expensively and work just as well. I have even heard that you can purchase a similar product at Lowes, that comes in a 20' long roll and is 6" wide, that is quite good.

my wagon has dynamat and insulation in the roof and floors tinted windows and everything you mentioned but you still get heat transfer thru the roof, windsheild, and just the car body itself heating up . on the power tour as we started in the morning the a/c was great had too turn it down even but let the 100 degree sun beat on the roof and in a few hours it needed help. while sitting on the dragstrip in ga you could hardly touch the roof without a minor burn it was so hot also there is a ton of stagnant air in the back of a wagon which helps to heat the front

Yeah, 59wag...there's a lot of metal roof that heats up a lot of interior space with a wagon. I'm sure you drive awhile with the windows all down after the car has sat in the sun and heated up. After that stored heat is gone it will be easier for the AC to cool the wagon interior.

Whatever you use, you want a radiant foil surface to move the heatwaves away from the interior, like aluminum foil. Dynamat or QuietRide and a few others offer it. If its bonded to the actually sound deadener, even better, because no hot air will get trapped underneath the foil.

Mexico doesn't allow tinted windows anymore. Its an $800 dollar fine. The bad guys used it in their rigs, that the good-guys got a special Federal law passed in May.

Mine had the mirror film, when we got it Mexico, but it was so fried and cracked that I took it off.

Maybe those old sunshades the 1950s cars had should come back and for the side windows too.:)

hey taz i believe the dynamat is more sound then heat insulation there are plenty of kinds of insulation usually come in sheets around 4' x 6' with like a jute backing or hd or lowes has an aluminum sided bubble wrap kinda stuff much cheaper then the jute stuff you find in the hot rod shop. i'll let you know if the underdash unit makes a difference

My dark blue Custom Cruiser is a heat magnet. The AC blows great, but just cannot overcome the heat coming through the body, top, and all the showcase glass area. I even have a piece of reflective material closing off the glass top. I usually drive my white Chevy Van when the heat is really on.

well i can relate dodge guy .living in south florida a/c is a neccesity.so what i did was add an underdash unit and it makes all the difference in the world ,tied it into the a/c lines under the dash uses the same compressor and it kicks butt .car can sit in the sun all day, drive down the road in 95+ weather and in 10-15 minutes you need to turn down either unit . definately made our road trip this week much more enjoyable

Sounds like a good trick. I used to hang a curtain behind the seats in my other van. Kept the cold air up front with me. Bought a van with front/rear air...love it!

my work van has a partition right behind the front seats so the a/c works great in that . somehow i don't think the wife or kid would enjoy sitting behind a curtain on our road trip. sur e would be quieter though lol

For a problem like this, I wouldn't be adverse to talking to an expert. Perhaps an auto A/C shop can take a look at your wagon, run a check on your system and suggest something for you. They would probably at least look at it and give you some recommendations for free.

Just me and the wife in the front seats and the dog wherever she wants to sit. I took the seat out behind the passenger front seat to have room for groceries, etc. left the one behind the driver and the rear couch. Conversion vans are insulated well, so front air does a pretty good job, but dual air does better. (y)
