Hi ! I bought the 72 Torino station wagon, from a member here in that forum three month ago. Now she is in good old Germany. I plan to restore her, and im looking to get as much good parts as i can, to get the job done next year. Hard to get are the weatherstrippings ( doors and tailgate ), is there an interchange with any other ford wagon from that years. Would be nice if anybody can help me to find this parts. !?
The following ALL interchange: 72-76 Torino, Gran Torino, Gran Torino Squire wagons The Mercury Montegos and Cougars wagons I think the LTD wagons from those years also interchange. Unfortunately they don't reproduce the weatherstrippings, but there are still some NOS stuff out there. Try EBAY or craigslist. Also as long as your originals aren'r crumbling or hard they can be brought back some with a good cleaning and plenty of rubber conditioner. Good luck. post some photos.
LTD ? im not sure, weatherstrippings i found on ebay for a 72 LTD looks different ! who knows more about interchanges !?
tailgate I think you may be right on the LTD's. Here is a photo of a 1973 LTD wagon and it doesn't seem to have the lil extra side pieces where you screw it to the cars body. It may just be pinched all the way instead.
thanx for that pic., i think also, it seems to be different, the side pieces are missing, but it could fit. I will see what i can get on ebay or next year at "Carlisle - ALL FORDS" !
You are thinking of the 1977 generation of LTD II wagons. The front door would also be the same as the sedan front door. not sure about the rear, but they may interchange as well. The tailgates will be the same for all the years of the full framed midsized wagons, so 1972 through 78.
Are you sure with the tailgates 72 to 78, what do you mean with the front door, which year does interchange exactly.
Alex, one place that's really good is this one. Take a picture of one end of yours (to get the cross-section) and measure the different measurements used in the pictures on their website: http://metrommp.com/ If that fails, try these sites: http://clestersauto.com/FairlaneTorino.aspx This one will make them for you: http://karrrubber.com/karrproducts/products.htm This is one of the most detailed pages on Ford-Mercury part numbering codes, since some sites want you to search by part number. Really useful in combination with a Ford Shop manual, where the detail pictures give you the middle 5 digits. Weather strips are considered part of the Roof parts group (50000 - 59999) http://www.hammar.dyndns.org/~djhamma/partnumb.htm You might want to download this guy's NOS parts lists (PDF files - right-click and save-as...) http://www.spacecoastshelby.com/nos.html He's got some weatherstripping parts back to 1970 for all Ford/Merc/Lincoln vehicles.
Hi, Thanx , for those good tips ! I will see what i can get, karrruber is a interesting side, perhaps i will let them build one for me !
