I've been doing some renovations on my house and found some news papers in the walls. Here's a real estate ad from Oct. 17 1920. FARM AT SACRIFICE On boulevard, short distance from large manufacturing city, 1-4 miles from R.R. station, only 40 miles from Boston. Bordered by a river,18 acre lake on farm, good buildings and complete farming equipment, 20 cattle, 3 horses, some pigs, hens, ducks, geese and turkeys. 60 tons of hay in barn, 400 acre of land, well divided. Must sell at once.$______ cash required. Tel So Boston 605. Any guesses at the price, I'll give it when I get out of work around 3 am
A new car was a few hundred back then. 400 acres, with a big lake... Only a few cattle. Doesn't describle the 'buildings' much.... Snooterbuckets might be pretty close, but I'm guessing the seller was real desperate......Maybe $3,500?

Hey, I was pretty close. If the guy was a motivated seller, maybe he could've been talked down from his asking price of $6000 to my guess of $5500 and I would've been spot on!
I can relate. I have the original deed from when granddad bought 48 acres out here on Lake of the Woods. $500. Add a few zeros and you're in todays' money.
