In The mid-90's I had some money, and a dream I always had, was fullfilled. I bought a '58 chevrolet yeoman 4-door station wagon. From the moment the decision was made to buy her, and the time I had her at my driveway, 4 months had passed. For me, it felt like 4 years. But finally when she finally arrived, I felt as rich as a king. At first I drove the car with very less changes from state it was in when I bought it, later she got a paint-job and a new interior/upholstery. The roof liner is still original. At the moment I am restoring her, the original engine (348ci) has been completely overhauled, with new bearings, pistons, camshaft, oilpump, modified cylinderheads for unleaded fuel, etc. etc. While I have not much time in the last few years, all parts are sitting in my barn, awaiting better times an more money. BUT..... a few months after I bought the Yeoman, I got offered an other wagon, wich I bought unseen for =/- 300 Dollars (750 Dutch Guilders at the time) It needed some work on the chassis, and some cosmetic work (all together about a month's work) This car is a '78 Malibu classic estate wagon. At first it sat for 6 years in my barn, then I have started driving it in the summermonths (april -october). For the rest of the year it stays inside. The car has -mostly- its original paint/woodgrain and also the upholstery is original. In the last two years, the roof liner has come down, because it doesn't stick to its foam anymore, so for this summer I have to do something about this situation. Her are some pics of my Malibu. From the Yeoman I don't have digital pics yet, but when I have, you'll be the first to see them.... So this is all for now....... P.S. In the Netherlands you don't see a lot of big american cars while they drink so much Gasoline costs at the moment 1,60 Euro's per liter, In American language this is aprox. $8.40 for ONE Gallon
Your friends think you are crazy I am sure to be driving American cars that consume a lot of gasoline. I like the Malibu and would like to see the Yeoman.
to the wagon train, rob. That is a clean bu you have there and I like the color combo. I don't see many bu's with wood. Thanks for the pix and good intro.
