Hello my Name is Dolphus but most call me Doc,im 20 year sold and live in S e Portlan,Or...ive always had a thing for station wagons.....esp classic american ones...then in july 2009 i stumbled across this 1969 Rambler American 440 Wagonat a local auto auction. It was missing 3 windows but it was there...i tried tuning it over but it had no gas....i took a chance and won a bit of $150 aginst the local salvaage yard......i got some gas and drove her home.....the AMC 232 staright six rand great but the brakes were sliding and mushy....then when i pulle dup into the driveway and went to bakck out...NO REVERSE!!LOL...reverse was drive as the automatic trans had burnt foward clutches.....well iw as like heck i saved it form the crusher and it was totally cool!Well basically it sat i made plexiglass windows for it...until finally i got a job a year and a half later to fix it up...for a while i drove it as is......but then i got my blazer annd parked it to get the love it needs.....then recently on a trip to seattle i scored a new hood.grill and fender and workin trans all for $100...i put the trans in and the grill on...plus new brakes and it drove good...i soon discovered i needed to rebuild my trunnions as they were leaning....but i still added a set of new rear shocks for a better ride....and i put in my own custom stereo job......currently im awaiting my next check and the time to rebuild the trunnions..but i still love it and all the fun times ive had with it..heres sum pics.the drivetrain is 232 straig six with elec ignition upgrade with auto trans and 4 wheel drum brakes Day One Body My Gf wih the car rear engine cleaned new stuff front seats today homemade door panel with speaker underdash kenwood hiding place for speaker in kick panel.lol
to the wagon train, doc. You are doing better than most of us here....you have a running classic for not much money. Not yet, anyway. We thank you for saving that nice 'ol Rambler. Keep up the good work! Stick around and, for sure, keep us posted on that wagon you stole.
SF is right you stole that Rammmbler. Great score with the hood, etc. excellent pictures. Glad you found us...keep in touch.
What's up Doc? I bet nobody's ever said that to you before. : I commend you for giving the poor thing a good home. Looks like a clean machine, those cars around there stay in really nice shape if they're from the right areas, some are time machines. My favorite parts guy lives in Oregon. I want to go car hunting in the Great Northleft sometime but I'm afraid of running into Bigfoots. They always have a ton of cash and buy the cars right out from under you. Do those seats fully recline so you can sleep on them?? Seems like that was a feature of the Rambler wagons? My mom had a '59, if anybody has or sees a brown and white two tone Cross-Country? with a bleach stain on the rear load floor carpet I did it on the way home from the grocery store in '63. Needless to say, I want the car if by some remote chance you do know about one like that. What's up with that rope in the first pic Doc? Did you drag it home with that or was the car trained to stay there when you drop the reins on the ground like a horse?
Nice save Doc. At least it wasn't flat lined when you gave it life sustaining fluids. Fun cars, not too many running around any more. In their day they were very popular where I lived at the time. Welcome to the forums.
and the bit abou the cross country sounds cool...i havent see one like that...and my seats dont recline all the way back but the do a good amount.....I really like your cutlass,my dad has always been a Gm guy...he owns a 74 Cad convertible and 85 Cad convertible......but that cruiser is awesome!
geez man...its been forever since i looked at it 232cuin -6cyl...if memory serves me correctly its Rumbler Amercian Classic 440 rag
