Then you've never been out on a lake that has a layer of slush over water and ice.

Ya, you get a layer of good ice, then a layer of water with a thin crust that freezes on top.
So you break through the top layer when you're walking or snowmobiling or whatever.
I've had a snow machine stuck in 2 feet of slush ice.

The rain we have got the last 2 days here I could use it to push the mud and water out my yard...I only know of twice in my 38 years of life it snowed here.January of '73 (my mom and dad showed me pictures as I was only a few days old) and in 2008 we got almost 2". I know that's not much for our northern friends but it closed schools, government offices and businesses.Guess it was a blizzard by southern standards!!!
