After MONTHS of looking for one stupid little door trim piece for my 87 Buick, tfvesquire (Ted) from Chicago lets me know he has 2... we make a deal @ $15 US dollars including snail mail charges and he mailed them to me to inspect before I paid him. Took some time to get mailed out but Ted kept in contact via PM always saying sorry, did'nt get to mailing, ben busy, havn't forgotton and I had no problems with that. I also was a bit slow at mailing him the money order, I also kept PM contact about that.

Today I get a PM from Ted saying he's been hanging on to the money order for over 1 month because his bank.... the charges for cashing the "Canadian money order that is made out (paid) in US funds" will cost more than the $15 US Dollars I sent him and no other banks etc will touch it!

Ted asked if he could mail me back the money order and I mail him a personal check...well of course I said yes. I also asked him to ask his bank how they mite "stick it" to him charges wise because it would be a Canadian bank check.....I have a problem snail mailing cash because there is no way to track it but I will in this case if I have to.

I've mailed money orders count less times with no hastle, but they have allways been in Canada....WTF!?!?

EDIT>>>> Best part is, I don't know if I can do anything with the money order...I don't have the reciet anymore

Andy, I hope Ted (tfvesquire) chimes in on this post. In our PM's he clearly stated that he did deposit it but his bank said the charges would be higher than the cost of the check.

I have a U.S. Khols credit card, I sent them a RBC money order...no problem? I don't understand how they can charge extra for cashing it. You pay the charges when you bought it???

Maybe they're PO'd because the $ is par...they're not making any extra money???

    WEIRD!

What type of money order did you use?Was it a bank draft or postal money order? If it was a postal money order did you use an international one?If so you can cash it at any post office.

I've purchased many things on e-Bay including out of country purchases and until e-Bay started getting tough on using them had no problems whatsoever.

The good part about using postal money orders is that if a seller tries to stiff you,the Post Office will go after them(it is known as mail fraud). You can also cash them at any post office with no transaction fee.

And it was made out in US funds, no conversion necessary on their end, right?

Here's a thought.Bank of Montreal owns Harris bank here in Chicago and has offices here.Perhaps they could take it if you called them. There may be other Canadiian banks here (many non-U.S. banks are located near the financial exchanges downtown).

Just to clarify the record, I did not say I deposited the money order in my bank, but when I finally got around to trying to deposit it via a bank teller (it would not go through when I tried via the ATM twice, the teller informed me that the fees to deposit this particular money order would far exceed the $15.00 money order. I then went down the street to a foreign currency exchange (one that deals with converting foreign money to US dollars) and they informed me that they don't even cash these at all.

So I contacted you to let you know the details and suggested I return the money order (at my expense) to you in exchange for a personal check. I have no idea what the problem is since I have dealt with Canadian money orders in the past, but unfortunately they did not look anything like the one you sent me. I will be sending this back to you asap and hopefully everything will work out. If not, I'm not going to waste a whole lot of time chasing $15.00. I was just glad I could help you out with a part I know you had been looking for for too long.

    Regards,

    Ted

If it looked like this, then it's the only kind there is that is issued by Canada Post.
I have seen that some institutions in the US don't honour them, which is wrong and inconsistent with the fact that they are accepted at face value other places.

Ted, Mail it back to me and I'll mail you $ like I said in our PM's. I'm not going to stiff you for $15. I only started this tread because , well it kinda blew my mind the bank would'nt except a postal $ order made out in USA $ funds.
