Evenin' all.Just found a link to this site on the Jalopy Journal message board and decided to check it out.Still perusing the various forums but it looks good so far. Name is Ray and I'm a semi-retired 67 year old sign artist/pinstriper living in Southeast Michigan.Grew up in a small town just north of Boston Massachusetts. After a stint in the Navy(1964-67)I worked at various body and race car shops until settling in at a Mercedes-Benz dealership;working my way up to parts manager and finally having to retire at 50 due to multiple health issues. Moved to Michigan in 1993;got re-married to a girl I met in the Navy and started slowly building up my pinstriping business.Had a bout with cancer in 2001 but so far seem to be on the upside. Bought my first wagon in 1968(a 1960 Chevrolet sedan delivery)and moved through a succession of others;among them several Pinto Cruisin' Vans and eventually wound up with what I had been lusting after since I first saw one on a showroom floor in 1955:a Pontiac Custom Safari wagon.Long story on how it came to be mine(for another time). Several years later I bought my 1957 Custom Safari wagon that had been built as a race car in the mid-60's by a good friend.Even had the lettering I had put on the dashboard in 1963!Another long story. I just got the 55 back on the road after a 3 year hiatus(looking for a trans)and since 1994 have logged about 165,000 miles on it.The 57 is still a garage queen but will hopefully be done one of these days. Anyway that's about it in a nut shell.Looking forward to chatting with other long roof fanatics on the board here.
