Who knew that station wagons would ever become collectible? My parents had owned three while I was growing up and they never seemed that cool at the time. But, looking back now, they were pretty cool and they are part of some great memories. Some of them even have some great styling. Maybe it's time to recapture some of that childhood and restore an old wagon for my family. And I’ll have to because I can’t afford the new supercharged Cadillac V Wagon. My dad had a 1968 Dodge Polara with a 440 when I was born. As a kid, I remember riding in the back seat (which faced rearward) and watching the cars behind us disappear whenever he decided to make a pass. The next wagon was a 1978 Dodge Aspen with a 318. Though it was smogged down and low on compression, that car had some serious step. My older brothers were old enough to drive by then and I can remember some fun times in the back seat of that wagon while they practiced broadies - lol. The last wagon was an early 80's Chevrolet Malibu. It was a car I practiced broadies in, but it would only do it in the snow. I’ve restored and owned several cars up to this point, including a ’72 Skylark (current car), ’71 Skylark, ’68 Gran Sport, ’63 Riviera (my first car), ’68 Coupe DeVille, and a ’69 Nova. I’m sort of a Buick guy, but appreciate certain models from all makes across many years. Right now I’m searching for a ’65-69 Chevrolet full-size wagon or ’64-67 Buick sport wagon. It will be my wife’s fun car. At least, that’s how I talked her into it. So, if anyone has a lead on a solid runner that’s not a major project, let me know.
to the wagon train, bac. Good intro....many of us have good memories of the wagons. I hope you find what you are looking for.....check out the other sections here.
Hello and welcome . Nice intro...your wife is one lucky lady to have a new(old) classic for her fun DD. Welcome to her also and good luck finding her car
Howdy BAC! Welcome! You have good taste in cars! I'm a Buick guy myself! Hold out for a nice '64-'67 Buick Sport Wagon, or maybe an Olds Vista Cruiser. Those are great wagons, perfectly sized for today. They can be found, occationally, with factory air and power windows, making them extra easy to live with. David
Thanks for the welcome, guys. Hi, David. Is that your Buick? Looks cherry! Do you ever hang out at V8Buick.com? It's a good forum too. I've seen a few sport wagons go on ebay within the past few months. They are priced a little high for me, but they are probably worth the money as they appeared to be turn-key done. There's really nothing withing driving distance from me on Craigslist right now. Maybe things will pick up in the spring - when all the snow goes away. I sort of want a full size wagon, but would certainly consider an A-body. I just don't want to spend the next ten years trying to find parts for it - lol! Yeah, I know that never ends with old cars, but I want a clean driver at least.
Oh, how I wish that was my Sport Wagon! I'm on V8Buick alot...same name...have a '72. Do your search using something like this: http://www.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.c...l=wagon&ys=&ye=&ps=&pe=&pgs=100&submit=++++go++++ Putting "wagon" in the filter blank gets you things not necessarily wanted, like Volkswagons and Power Wagons, but it can be changed up to get closer to what you want. http://www.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.c...l=wagon&ys=&ye=&ps=&pe=&pgs=100&submit=++++go++++ http://www.jaxed.com/cgi-bin/mash.c...ys=1965&ye=1970&ps=&pe=&pgs=100&submit=++++go++++ I have many of these saved in my favorites, and I check them out just about every day. David
Wow. Thanks for the links, David! That will save me a ton of time and will filter out all the Radio Flyers. I go by the username of StageTwo on the V8Buick board. Good to see ya.
Hey BJ, there are a couple of 68 Sport Wagons floating around for sale. I drive my 68 400 Sporty to work and the airport all the time (120 mile round trip), it is mechanically sound, but not cosmetically. How much are you looking at spending? I too am on V8 Buick as pretty much the same name. Bill
Hey BJ, this isn't one of the years you said you were looking for, but... This '69 is on V8Buick...Daves69...he says he wants $5,500.00 for it. Dang good looking! http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=222074 David
Thanks, Bill and David. My wife hasn't converted over to the stepchild nation yet or I'd consider a '68-69 Buick. That blue one looks nice to me. There's currently a '65 Buick on Craigslist with a 455/400 in it. Sort of tempting, but I just haven't had a chance to call on it yet. One thing I need to think about is I don't have enough garage space yet - trying to sell my house so I can build another one (mainly because I need more bedrooms). I'm hoping to see that happen this year. Still, I've got my eyes open for a good deal - something under 4 or 5K that doesn't need a whole lot of work.
