caddy wagon

    does anyone know anything about a caddy wagon made in 1985? what about the ones made in the 1970's?....are these things that rare that its foolish to hope of owning one? i didnt even know they made them.

    They were all custom conversions.

    so no one has any idea then?
    they have to be rare as heck ive never seen one in person( of course ive only ever seen 1 jeep FC too ).
    were they all made by the same conversion company?
    were they all called catilions or just the mid 70's one?

    i just have so may questions about it........im so amazed...i keep seeing this pic on the web of the 1985 one and i cant stop looking at it! its like seeing alyson hannigan scantly clad!

    Yes, they are rare. As stated, they were not built on a factory assembly line. Various conversion companies were involved in the building - either through custom orders, or on 'spec' from Cadillac dealers directly. I know that Casa de Cadillac in Sherman Oaks, Califronia was one of them. One of the companies that converted them was American Sunroof Corp. I believe they were popular with cartain entainers / movie people. Elvis Presley had one, and his is for sale on E-bay right now.

    To biuld them, the conversion company would start with a Fleetwood 4-door sedan, and then order (or 'obtain') a full roof and quarter glass section with rear body / tail gate from a large body G.M car of the same period (Chevy Caprice / Pontiac Bonneville / Grandville / etc.) They would then cut off the roof, and upper/lower rear body panels on the Caddy and attach the donor roof / rear body section of the donor wagon. (This is much simplified, but you get the idea.)

    All in all, the conversion would have cost about the same price as the original Caddilac cost - in essence doubling the price of the Caddy.

    If it was mine, I would install 20" or 22" wired wheels...

    Yeah, you'd have a more classic look, and there's lots of room in the wheelwells.

    When I was a kid (long, long ago), there was a 1958 Caddy Hearse running around town, owned by a Satan's Choice leader. They did it up with arched Stain Glass side windows, and had "Oshawa's Finest Citizens" painted in Gold Leaf on the sides. :D Bad-A$$ biker gang. They never locked it. I wonder why... :yahoo:

    The hearse pictured belongs to Tony Stewart (NASCAR). It was customized on the show "Unique Whips". It has a 502 CI Chevy big block in it, with all of the usual appointments (air, ps, cruise, etc). The interior sports a 42" LCD TV that disappears into a custom bar built behind the front seat. The sound system in this car is amazing! And, yes, it'll "smoke" the tires for a good block or so! It's called a "Smoke DeVille"!!

    That is Tony Stewart's Hearst wagon that was customized by Unique Whips. I watched the show. A painter did the wood instead of a decal

    A funeral car is a "HEARSE". "HEARST" was a newspaper publisher at the turn of the 20th Century. "HURST" is a performance part manufacturer and former car customizer for the Big Three.

    Besides I had the New Dodge Challenger Hurst on my mind. :(
