Getting my first wagon

Keeping the basic wagon theme,the tips are plain pipe--not chrome or stainless.
Baloney sliced and at an angle,not over bearing,yet makes a statement.

Flowmasters 40 series and Magnaflows make a Mopar sound like a 5.0 Mustang or Chebbie Cramaro.But that's my opinion based on what I heard in our shop from previous installations on other cars.

I went old school and chose Thrush Turbo Mufflers for that real 70's Mopar small block sound.

 

Nice to find an exhaust artist. Fine work. Nice fit.

Tom loves to fabricate and always up to a challenge.
He is an invaluable part of our team at our shop.
With most of the old school guys retiring or passing on--and add the "ready to install" exhaust kits,not many people can do what Tom does.
Eventually,Waygun will be a rolling advertisement for our shop.

I gotta admit, I'm somewhat jealous and saddened by your pictures though. My wagon used to be as clean as your, its not anymore.

I'm a little surprised to see the 9 1/4 under there. My wagon came with the 8 3/4. Maybe it was a production date thing?

On the exhaust, it looks great, but, I question where it comes out. Aside from fumes in the car, I'd be worried about the heat damaging the backup lenses. Whoever did the duals on my wagon, tucked the outlets out to the corners.

John,is it possible to take a pic of the tailpipes on your car?
I need a reference so I can relocate mine.
This is my first wagon and I did not know the tailpipes would be a problem exiting straight out.
They do look cool and sound great,but the fumes are getting to me.
When cruising around town,I do get fumes up front..More when idling at the lights.
I had passengers in the back and asked them if they could smell fumes--and they did faintly.
Big time fumes with the rear window rolled down driving in the city.
No fumes with all windows rolled up.
Not a major issue that cannot be fixed,yet important enough for one's well being.

 

Late build car,June 1973,and original owner registered the car in July,1973.
One can only assume being a late build,they installed the 9-1/4 axle since all 1974 wagons got them.

The pipes come out right in front of the bumper on each side. The exhaust was done by the previous owner. Whoever did it, did a good job in the back because they had the added obstacle of the trailer hitch.

Give me a a day or two, I can get better pic of the tailpipes if you need 'em.

If I remember correctly, mine's an early build car......12/72??

On mine, there's a number of body welds that look like they were done by drunk monkeys.

How exciting for you...what an awesome story Good old CTC to the rescue! Your car looks really great, very clean and natural. I can hardly wait to be at the point where I'm concerned about the exhaust.

I was thinking of that very thing as you were showing the pix, waygun. It does not look as cool out the sides but it sure helps solve the fume problem. I've had them both ways and out the side is way better for driving.
