New to the site. Seems like a lot of neat rides and lots of information here. Hope I can contribute. My wagon is a '73 Satellite Custom 9 passenger. Haven't restarted the rebuild on it yet. This was back in 1998 when I first got it (that's my Mom in the pic). Its being towed because the 400 had a spun bearing. Car had just under 60K miles at that time. I dropped in a (stock) 440 I had, and started driving it Here's a short vid of the 440 at fire up: http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s96/Satilite73/?action=view¤t=movie001.mp4 and http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s96/Satilite73/?action=view¤t=movie002-1.mp4 While I was driving it, I never intended it to be my everyday, 24/7 car. Divorce and a few health issues pushed the wagon into the daily grind for about 5 yrs. It never let me down, and may have even saved my life a time or two, but, the use took its toll. I finally got a new(er) vehicle to drive, but, couldn't get the wagon out of the weather, so, it sat in the driveway another three years, before I moved to where I am now and was able to put it in the garage. The damage is done though. What was once an almost rust-free body has a number of crispy areas now. The 440 was tired when I dropped it in back then, its only more tired now. I want to rebuild the 400 and put it back in. It may be awhile yet before I start work, but, I have no intentions of selling at this point (and its not like people are beating down my door for it). While my primary interests are Mopars, I appreciate ALL older cars/wagons/trucks. Wouldn't it be boring if we were all interested in just ONE make and model of car? (now I just need to figure out this board ) John
to the wagon train, sat73. Great intro! We appreciate the pix and clips. And we appreciate the fact that you just keep hanging on to that wagon and want to bring it back again! She's a nice 'ol wagon.
Welcome John and bravo to you for keeping the family ride. If you got pics up, you've got the board mastered. Finding stuff for the resto gives you 2 options - Search, using keywords like Mopar, woodgrain, weatherstrip, Plymouth, etc. OR check in the Site Directory on the main website page. There are some trickier things, like taking a Poll, but just read the instructions, 2 or 3 times. I've never used it in 3 years, but some have. Good to have you here.
In reading the whole sentence....I couldn't resist. No fair, Tedy....you edited it! Now my post looks like I'm some kind of pervert. Well....................
Suck? I was gonna say 'thanks for the welcome', but, I'm not so sure now! I'm not new to boards, I usually hang out over at moparts.com , this board is just set up a little different than what I'm used to. No biggie. I've collected parts over the years for my wagon, but, the one thing that has eluded me is weather stripping, specifically the tailgate pieces. Would be nice to shut the door and not hear metal on metal. Here's a couple of more pics: Current wife (then GF) and I took a day trip north of here exploring old cemeteries. This was about 5 yrs ago, and the last time the wagon saw any real miles. And when I said the wagon was used 24/7, here's an example: I don't think you'll ever see a Hemi Cuda with a mattress strapped to its top. Here's a link to some pics I took in 2006: http://s150.photobucket.com/albums/s96/Satilite73/wagon/ Not much has changed, except the wagon is in worse shape now. The damage to the right fender was there when I bought the car. John
No, but several years ago I did hear a guy at a local car show boasting how he had strapped a Christmas tree to the roof of his new Ferrari F-40. And years ago I used to know a guy who drove his Superbird when it was his turn to car pool to work. Imaging seeing a B-5 blue Superbird with 4 guys in business suits in the car pool lane on I-95 commuting from the Virginia suburbs, into down town Washington D.C. during rush hour (this was in the late 1980's and the Superbird was already a valuable collector car). Welcome aboard.
...and the punchline is......"i was so broke i had to sleep ON the wagon" ...... John....glad to hear the Wagon outlasted the Wife........ Im sure you'll get her back to her past glory!!....(the wagon dat is)
