Our Province runs the Auto Insurance here. It's even profitable! Enough that they mail us rebate cheques.

Well, last week they were showing some recent carjacked cars where the kids had split the metal under a Ford SUV's recessed door handles, just like my 1979 Wagon, and I got to thinking about shaving them off and powering them via the battery (remote control). Gets rid of keys too! I found this site and it carries a whole bunch of classic car body and electrical parts:

    http://www.customclassic.com/products/shave/index.htm

    http://www.a1electric.com/popdoor.htm

    And a few HowTo articles:

If our cars are on the Most-At-Risk list (150 models), we have to get the immobilizers installed or no insurance. Mine isn't but they pay half on my car. The shaving thing won't stop breaking glass, but it does make it another obstacle.

you know bubba we just got a new car an 07 kia rondo crossover,,,(i tell my wife it,s got it,s lineage from station wagons) and we just put an alarm in it that (1) if some crack whore wants to throw a brick threw the winder then (1) the alarm goes off and (2) the ignition is disabled AND (3) it,s another however minor discount on our insurance,,,,,for what that is worth but i,ll take all i can get,,,,we have clean records multiple car non smoker etc, etc, etc,,,but on your application you can also install the same type alarm to interrupt the igntion system ,,,,the thing i am concerned my self is the brazen stupidity of thieves to not even try to break into a car ie:screw with the door locks,, pry thrue the window frame to pull up the door locks they just break the windows and do the given damage,,,,,,of course thats where a loaded side arm comes in handy he,he,he:dance:

Can't do the last one, here! I might put another emblem on the sides of the fenders, instead of BOSS 302, like Puddle-Jumper SIX! That's as close to a Six-shooter as I can get. :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

one thing to watch is your local "vehicle laws"
ie; the province or state where you live may have something in their 'motor vehicle laws'..that prohibit..."anti accessible door latch"

the rules from my area actually state that
"the vehicle must have a visible access point"..
...in other words...the cops cant haul ya out if they cant get the doors open:D

same goes for NHRA drag racing rules!!

I will be shaving the handles off my '55 ford this winter as an anti-theft measure. The doors will open by a manual release hidden somewhere on the car. I don't trust electronic door poppers just because of the risk of them failing. I wasn't going to do this originally because I wanted to keep the car looking as original as possible, but living in the city my car is an easy target for thieves. If they want the car bad enough, they're gonna have to work for it. I will also be using a home made "club". basically just the thickest link chain I can find locked tight from the steering wheel down around the brake pedal. like I said, if they want the car bad enough, they're gonna have to earn it.

Or the rescue can't get you out. The jackbooted thugs aren't the only ones that may need to "haul you out".:D
