"I am selling my custom hot rod 1968 Mercury Montego MX station wagon. The wagon has a huge list of new or reworked parts including new two tone paint duel exhaust new shocks new radiator reworked brakes new carpet kit (not installed yet) front bench or bucket seats and a center console...The motor I was told had a new 302 long block about 5 years ago and runs like a charm (the car was a daily driver when I bought it).It has 17" centerline wheels the front was lowered 3" and the rear 2" and looks and sounds like it has lots of attitude! Throw some Magnum 500's on it and it would be killer. I like the dep red but think it would look better if the white was gun metal silver etc.

Does everything have to be low with large rims and small tires?

 

All the young guys seem to be going for the 'bling' look, which I absolutely hate. I prefer maybe upping the wheel size 1-2" from stock, max. NO chrome; - polished alloys, 50/60 series tires.......

 

I like a stock steel or maybe a Cragar SS with P225 75 R15 tires.

 

Same here. To me, those low profile tires just give you an awful cruising and highway ride. Low profile tires are for cars that can handle the twisties......An we all know our wagons aren't handling any darn twisties.


As for the wheels.....Magnum 500s or cragars all the way baby.

 

But with p235 75 r15 on the back


Ahhh yes, the good old Crager SS, I'd love a set and these would make the car for sure.

 

I never was big on rims besides stock steelies and hubcaps until my first car, my 60 Bel-Air had SS's on it and I loved how they looked. Wish I still had them, and that the car hadn't ever gotten totalled.

 

yeah but they never balace right. My El Camino alway had a shimmy at highway speeds. Those unilugs just dont make me comfy. I'd go for a nice set of smoothies on this car. Or maybe some torque thrusts.

 

You just can't beat old-style Cragar spokes. Although, I do like the Street Stars too. For right now, I'm thinking of running 8"-10" wide black steelies with the factory dog-dish caps on the Fairmont.
